Welcome back to another tip with Coach K and Carol with Total Wellness Coach.
Today, Bob and I want to talk about balance and fall prevention but also how to "test" yourself!! Staying steady on your feet becomes more important as we age. For adults over 60, falls are one of the leading causes of injury, but many can be prevented with simple lifestyle changes.
Why It Matters...
Age-related changes—like weaker muscles, slower reflexes, and reduced vision—can all affect balance. But staying active and mindful helps reduce risks and keeps you moving with confidence.
Here are some Tips for Fall Prevention!
* Keep Moving: Walking, yoga, or tai chi improve balance and strength.
* Strengthen Muscles: Focus on legs and core with simple exercises like squats or heel raises.
* Make Your Home Safer: Remove clutter, secure rugs, and add good lighting.
* Wear Supportive Shoes: Choose footwear with traction and stability.
* Check Your Health: Get regular eye exams, hearing tests, and medication reviews to support overall safety.
ALSO... practice/exercise your stability muscles in your feet, ankles and calves that Bob and I show you in the video.
The Bottom Line...
Preventing falls is about more than safety—it’s about independence and quality of life. By building balance, staying active, and creating a safe environment, you can stay strong and steady well into your 60s and beyond.
