We specialize in whole body care and we can't wait to meet you! At Health In Balance Physical Therapy, our licensed physical therapists are united by a common goal. We all believe in a single treatment philosophy and mission: to offer you more intense, hands-on therapy and more time with your physical therapist. Our treatment methods are designed to speed your recovery and improve your quality of life. Your one hour appointment is spent entirely with your therapist. We do not use any assistive personnel. We currently offer Physical Therapy Services out of our clinic in Mequon. We also offer aesthetics and fitness training.

Move More Monday 😎 Pelvic tilts involve rocking the pelvis forward and backward while keeping the upper body relatively still. This movement targets the core and helps develop awareness and control of the muscles around the pelvis and lower spine.

*Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor (hip-width apart), arms resting at your sides:
Inhale to prepare.
As you exhale, engage your abdominal muscles and flatten your lower back against the floor by tilting your pelvis backward (posterior tilt)
Inhale and return to the neutral starting position
Optionally, tilt the pelvis slightly forward (anterior tilt), allowing your lower back to arch more—then repeat the cycle

It is Fun Fact Friday! 💜
This week's fact:
Back in ancient Greece (around 460–370 BCE), Hippocrates — often called the “Father of Medicine” — described and practiced techniques that look a lot like the early forms of physical therapy. He advocated for massage, manual therapy, and exercise as key parts of treating illness and maintaining health. He believed movement and touch could restore balance in the body, and he even used things like hydrotherapy (water treatments) and mechanical traction for certain conditions.
While PT as a profession formally developed in the early 20th century, Hippocrates’ writings are often cited as the earliest medical endorsement of what we now call physiotherapy principles. His work laid the foundation for seeing movement and physical interventions as medicine, not just philosophy!

Wellness Wednesday tip 💡
At some point today stop what you’re doing and take 5-10 diaphragmatic breaths. Breathe in through your nose and feel your lower ribs expand. Breathe out through pursed lips, making your exhale longer than your inhale.
Diaphragmatic breathing helps stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system which is the “rest and digest” part of the nervous system. It is the counter to the fight or flight response. Stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system can help reduce stress, help muscles release unnecessary tension and improve your connection to your core ❤️

Move More Monday 😎 Ankle range of motion is essential for good squat and lunging mechanics, walking and running mechanics and maintaining balance. A standing gastroc stretch or seated gastroc stretch with a band will stretch your calf which can help maintain your ankle range of motion and prevent injuries such as achilles strain and plantar fasciitis.

Stand at a wall with your leg back, knee extended and heel on the ground and feel the stretch in the back of the lower leg. Hold for 30-60 seconds and perform on each side.
