🩷My “Why”🩷

Three months ago, I lost my obachan, Tokiko Komatsu Harper, to breast cancer. She was a strong, independent woman who influenced so much of who I am today. I received my MagnaWave while she was in hospice and would work on my certification in her bed while she slept. There was one moment where she woke up, rolled her eyes, and said, “You never stop, do you?”. There’s no doubt she’s always inspired me to never stop striving for more.

In her honor, this October, I’m dedicating this month’s promo to raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research. For every session booked this month, a portion of the proceeds will go directly to research efforts. It’s my way of giving back in a meaningful way—to support those still fighting, honor those we've lost, and help find a cure for future generations.

We get massages to feel good, so why shouldn’t we do the same for our horses?🐴

Let’s talk about it!

Equine Sports Massage Therapy (ESMT) is the manual manipulation of soft body tissues using different massage techniques to relieve areas of discomfort and help them feel their best.

If your horse is showing discomfort I work to break up those tight areas, knots and adhesions to relieve tension.

Did you know that around 5 muscle fibers from your horse is equal to 1 sheet of paper?

When the muscle gets over stretched or overworked, the muscle fibers can tear. This causes the fibers to become disorganized and intertwined, limiting the flow of circulation throughout the muscle. Massage strokes can help break up the knot and ‘untangle’ the muscle fibers to restore circulation. In return this helps the body to heal.

As the colder/rainy weather and off or slower season approaches for horses a lot of owners ask, “Does my horse need to keep up with their bodywork if I’m not using them?”

Well there isn’t exactly a right or wrong answer, it’s completely up to each individual owner and the horses needs. There are some benefits to consider though!

Along with the effects of cold weather and decreased activity to your horses muscles, horses are horses. Even sitting turned out they can manage to hurt themselves, so keeping their muscles relaxed and stretched can help decrease the chance of any strains, sprains, ect!

Just keeping up with monthly massage sessions could be a great benefit to your equine athlete and allow you to bring them back into work quicker!

We LOVE a big release!❤️

Horses can react to their massage in many different ways — some are very stoic and release with just soft blinks or nothing at all, while others aren’t afraid of showing how they feel. Mr. Payday was yawning, chewing, and licking the whole time!

Just because a horse isn’t physically showing their releases doesn’t mean they aren’t enjoying their bodywork session. You may not be able to see it, but my hands can feel when your horse relaxes their muscles and melts into me. Which is equally as rewarding!
