Congratulations Victor Miranda-Silva for being recognized in the 2025 Acts of Humankindness Awards! This award celebrates team members whose Acts of Humankindness bring our values and mission to life. Read what the person who nominated Victor had to say:
I used to work with Security Officer Victor Miranda on the graveyard shift earlier this year and have never seen someone give so much of themselves to others.
Whenever he is at the south station of our emergency department, he has such a positive influence on the patients there. He is excellent at communicating with others, which becomes especially obvious when someone appears to be struggling.
Whether it is struggling with anxiety, coping with loss, or just uncertainty about what they're going to do after leaving our facility, Victor engages with them and says the right words.
I have personally witnessed at least two occasions where discharged patients had no transportation at night and just wanted to get home but lacked the money.
I have seen him reach into his pocket and pay the taxi drivers, simply asking them to get that patient home safely. He never asks for anything in return.
He is always walking around the emergency department and elsewhere with a positive attitude and is easily approachable.
It seems like he walks into situations where he is able to diffuse a bad situation, often arriving at just the right time to intervene.
Several patients who return to the emergency department specifically ask for him when they feel anxious, as they know he is able to help them with grounding techniques.
He is great at talking to patients, their families, and anyone experiencing a difficult time in life. He's a great communicator and a thoughtful listener.
