Let's Talk About Licensure in Therapy š§ š
I've been hearing some concerning misconceptions about licensed vs. prelicensed therapists lately, and I think it's time for some clarity.
The reality is that Prelicensed therapists have already completed graduate-level trainingāat a minimum, a master's degree in their field. They're incredibly skilled, compassionate, and effective clinicians working under supervision (which is actually a strength!). They often bring fresh perspectives and may have specialized training in areas that even seasoned clinicians don't. Additionally, prelicensed therapists are often vital resources in underserved communities, helping to bridge critical gaps in mental health access where fully licensed providers may be scarce.
The bottom line is that both licensed and pre-licensed therapists can provide excellent care. What matters most is finding someone who's a good fit for YOUR needs, whether that's clinical expertise, approach, or simply feeling heard and understood.
Good therapy isn't about the letters after someone's nameāit's about the connection, competence, and care they bring to the room.
