My name is Gloria. Back in 2016, I got very sick and was told by my physician that I had Meningitis. Meningitis is inflammation of the brain and spinal cord membranes, typically caused by infection. Usually it's caused by a viral infection, but can be bacterial or fungal. I developed memory loss, my spleen was removed and I could no longer walk. My toes and fingers were amputated, and I lost my voice and hearing. By the grace of God, months later my hearing returned to my right ear. Also my brain was beginning to work as well, not 100%, but I could make sense of many things around me. Ultimately, I needed a long-term care facility, so I went on the computer and did my research. I had several places to choose from but after reading the reviews and looking into Meriden Center website, I then made my final decision, and chose Meriden Center. My family was very happy. With the help of the Meriden team, I definitely feel stronger from going to physical therapy. I'm starting to walk again and my balance is much better. Also Occupational Therapy has helped me tremendously with using what I have. My fingers were amputated and they have taught me how to function better with using the few fingers that I have. Going to Occupational Therapy has been a blessing in improving my hand agility. The staff is very loving, caring and kind. The residents are friendly and we all care about each other here at Meriden Center - they are family to me. I really enjoy the activities, especially the brain games, it keeps me sharp and on my toes. I'm always ready for the next question when we play Trivia, it's good for me to exercise my brain. I also enjoy cooking classes, gardening, and musical entertainment. Bible Ministries come to Meriden Center regularly to do bible study with us. It's something I really look forward to. Thank you Meriden Center for being a second family to me!
