Just a little background on my last breastfeeding journey. Remind parents, the goal isn't to go the longest, but to know that you have that option and no one should make you feel bad about YOUR journey!!! But if they do, this might help:
My daughter was 2 months shy of turning 4 when she weaned on her own. She came to me one day, climbed in my lap and said, "Mommy, I don't need your milks anymore. " I was like, my milks?? And she said, "You know, your breasts. I'm a big girl now!!" I was a little sad but oh so proud!! We were down to only one night feeding and the occasional nap time feeding. I would always shame those that thought it was time for her to stop. My number one comment that closed a lot of mouths was, "Did you breastfeed." Most would say no and scamper off quietly. My other comments dealt with the latest in breastfeeding research and education. Ignorance isnt bliss, lol. When it's time, they let us know and it's nothing wrong with a little comfort. They are still babies. I have two of the most independent breastfed kids, that I know. My son is 7 and my daughter is 5. My son breastfed for 18 or 19 months and my daughter was 2 months shy of turning 4 years old. They are born leaders, very intelligent, and outgoing!!! I blame the breastmilk 🥰😂
