Congratulations to the authors, Drs Hinchman, Woodburn, Noonan and Costello and High Desert Heart & Vascular, for being published in JACC (the Journal of the American College of Cardiology).

Their article “Predicting Acute Myocardial Infarction in the Absence of Detectable Atherosclerotic Plaque With Perivascular Coronary Inflammation” can be found online at the link in our bio.

Research in medicine contributes to growth of knowledge and understanding of disease and how to prevent it. We have numerous clinical research trials running at HDHV as well as submitting case reports of significant findings.

Kudos for sharing your findings with the broader medical community, High Desert Heart & Vascular team!

Over half of the adults on the United States have high blood pressure (that’s 122 million adults).

If you have high blood pressure it’s important to check your blood pressure regularly at home. You should purchase an automatic, upper arm cuff-style monitor (use your HSA/FSA money!) and follow the instructions below:

1. Don’t smoke, drink caffeine or exercise within 30 minutes before taking your BP
2. Put the cuff on bare skin (not over clothes)
3. Use either arm
4. Be still for at least 5 minutes before taking your readings
5. Sit with your feet flat on the ground, arm at chest level and cuff placed directly above the bend of your elbow. Check the instructions on your cuff for taking measurements.
6. Measure at the same time each day. Check with your doctor or provider about how often you should take your measurement.
7. Take at least two readings, one minute apart, and record the results.

For a list of validated home monitors check out validatebp.org Feel free to bring your monitor into your next appointment to make sure it’s working correctly and giving accurate results.

Thanks for demonstrating proper technique!

A cardiology kind of makeover.

Dr Costello’s has opened up a few arteries by deploying stents to ensure adequate blood flow and preventing a heart attack.

A great before and after. Before you see limited blood flowing through clogged arteries. After you can see plump arteries with adequate blood flow, ensuring the heart muscle is well supplied with oxygen.

Nestled amongst the green trees of Emerald Street and Maple Grove Road in Boise is Treasure Valley Hospital. We are proud physician owners and operators of this well-loved hospital.

Patients love the friendly and experienced staff, the easy parking and access to the facility, the food and of course, positive outcomes from surgery.

Physicians love to have a vested interest in their hospital, appreciate their staff and co-workers, get to think outside the box and have a voice in decision making.

High Desert Heart & Vascular is proud of bringing a cardiology department to Treasure Valley Hospital and continuing to offer affordable and timely access to care.

Dr Noonan lectured today to a full room of Idaho’s physician assistants at their annual meeting. He gave his lecture “How not to die” that focuses on risk factor modification and screening for heart disease.

Dr Noonan reminds us that some of the risk factors that can be modified include: blood pressure, cholesterol, sleep, exercise, nutrition.

Screening modalities he covered include lipid panels (including Lp(a) and ApoB), coronary calcium scans and CCTA (coronary CT with plaque analysis).

Thanks for having Dr Noonan at the Annual Conference, 💜

The masterminds behind the technology and systems used in electrophysiology sit with our team during each procedure. It’s always a team in the operating room: everyone plays their positions and the outcome is successful.

In the operating room, the control room houses screens and programs and smart people (otherwise known as mapping specialists) who help guide our cardiologists around the heart. They map electricity flowing through the heart and help ensure the technology is being used optimally. Their experience is invaluable - they’ve gained our trust and know what we’re thinking before we say a word.

Being longtime community doctors in the Treasure Valley gives us an advantage - we know our colleagues and have built a foundation of trust, allowing us to perform at the highest caliber.

Thankful for our entire team each time we step onto our field, the operating room, together.
