Vance Medical specializes in hard to treat pain and illness. Dr. B. Mark Vance, M.D. is a board certified Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

He has over 15 years of experience in "conventional medicine" including clinic, emergency room, inpatient hospital and administrative work. In addition, he has received extensive training in alternative medicine as well as serving as the Medical Director of the West Clinic in Pocatello, ID. This unique training has equipped him with the skills to provide effective treatments for many conditions that typically have poor outcomes with standard MD medical treatment. His extensive work with alternative providers makes him the ideal liason between the "regular" medical system and alternative medicine providers.

Low Dose Immunotherapy (LDI) is a almost identical to the Low Dose Allergy (LDA) therapy. While LDA works very well for many types of allergies, LDI can work for various autoimmune disorders and chronic infections.

Low Dose Allergen (LDA) therapy is an amazing option for treating most forms of allergies. This includes most forms of inhaled allergens (hay fever, pollen, pet dander, etc.), food allergens (dairy, gluten, corn, etc.), and even chemical sensitivities (perfumes, formaldehyde, etc.).

Why Do We Treat Psychiatric Illness?
Before becoming an alternative doctor, and before even becoming a family physician, Dr Vance did his internship in Psychiatry at the Navel Medical Center Portsmouth. There he got extensive training in recognizing and treating psychiatric disease. He has recognized that not only is there not nearly enough providers treating psychiatric illness, it is often treated with a one-size-fits-all approach focusing on medicines that tend to make the mind sluggish at best.

New evidence tends to suggest that the root of psychiatric disease may be different than what we thought it was. Instead of people being "weak-willed" or having a "prozac deficiency disorder," it is becoming apparent that in many if not most cases of psychiatric illness there is a strong component of nutrient deficiencies. CHRONIC PAIN - IT HURTS!
Approximately 100 million Americans suffer from chronic pain. That's 1 in 5 people.
Nearly half of these experience such intense pain that it negatively impacts their work and their daily life’s activities.
Treatment for these patients at a “typical” doctor's office focuses first on ruling out autoimmune disease or infection, and then prescribing medications in order to stabilize nerves, cut down on inflammation, etc. Quite often, patients are given narcotics which only block the brain from receiving the message that the body is in pain. While this can be a short-term solution in some cases, it can easily result in a dependency, and a painful situation that never truly heals.

Worried about Genetic Predispositions?

Very commonly mental illness tends to run in families, and it has long been assumed that there must be some genetic component. Due to the vast amount of work done in the Human Genome Project, we have discovered several genes which have defects of varying frequency that can be associated with various types of mental illness. Some of these, MTHFR in particular, can be very common.

Recognizing the genetic defects can be helpful in certain cases to figure out the best way to treat the patient.
