Many people believe prolonged sitting is inherently bad for the back.

In reality, the issue is often reduced tolerance to that position.

When the muscles that support the spine are not strong or enduring enough, the back can become sensitive during prolonged sitting.

Gradually improving strength and endurance in the surrounding muscles helps the body tolerate those demands more comfortably.

🏃‍♂️ If your knee, hip, or back keeps getting irritated during training…

but stretching the painful spot isn’t fixing it…

this might be why.

Most people focus only on where it hurts.

But often the real issue is how the body is moving as a whole.

When joints don’t move well or muscles aren’t coordinating efficiently, certain areas end up handling more stress than they should.

That’s why improving movement quality often matters more than just chasing the painful spot.

Range of motion is only part of the picture.

For joints to function well, the body also needs control and strength throughout that range.

Developing both mobility and control helps movement feel more stable and comfortable.

Exercises are often blamed for pain when they are simply exposing a limitation in the system.

Overhead discomfort frequently relates to mobility restrictions in the upper back, limited control of the shoulder blade, or reduced strength in elevated positions.

When these elements improve, the shoulder often becomes much more comfortable with pressing or reaching overhead.

Instead of permanently removing movements, the goal is usually to rebuild the system so the body can tolerate them again.

Mobility tools can feel helpful.

They often reduce tension temporarily and can make movement feel easier in the short term.

However, these tools usually do not change the underlying capacity of the system.

Strength, coordination, and load tolerance are what allow joints and tissues to handle stress over time.

Mobility tools can support the process, but lasting change usually requires building strength and control through movement.

One of the most common pieces of advice people receive for pain is to “just rest.”

While short periods of rest can reduce symptoms, prolonged avoidance often makes the body less prepared for activity.

Strength, coordination, and tolerance to movement decrease when the body stops being challenged.

Then when someone returns to lifting, running, working, or exercising, the system may not be ready for those demands.

Recovery often involves restoring movement, rebuilding strength, and gradually increasing tolerance to load.

Movement, when applied appropriately, helps the body adapt and become more resilient

When something hurts, most people start searching for exercises online.

You try a stretch here, a mobility drill there, hoping something sticks.

The misconception is that more movements automatically means better rehab.

But without understanding why your pain is happening, it becomes a guessing game.

At Form Theory we start with a detailed movement assessment to see how the hips, spine, and shoulders coordinate under load. That tells us exactly what needs to improve so your rehab is targeted instead of random.

When the right things improve, people often notice their workouts feel stronger, daily movement becomes easier, and pain stops interrupting their routine.
