Are you a “boom-and-bust” type of person when dealing with pain? 🤔
Here’s what it looks like when someone follows the “boom-and-bust” cycle:
Boom: Pushing too hard, too fast after resting for too long, which leads to a flare-up.
Bust: Taking too much time off, avoiding activity too rigidly, and becoming deconditioned.
The problem? 👉 When they feel ready to try again, they jump back in at the same intensity as before (or just slightly less). But because they’ve created such a big “valley” in their progress, it’s still too much, too soon. This leads to another flare-up, and the cycle starts all over again: up, down, up, down. The trajectory overall, leading downward overtime into greater pain or injury.
🔑 The key to breaking this pattern is learning how to scale activity to tolerance and understanding how modifiable and scalable physical stressors can be.
When we teach this, we dedicate time to helping you build this skill—so you can stop the boom-and-bust cycle for good 💪
