When the day gets tough and challenging, try to remember how great our horses are. Allow them to awaken your senses; how they sound, clip clop as we go looking for horses, how they sound when they sneeze and whinny, and how they feel, so warm, strong and soft.

Prompting is an important tool while working with riders with cognitive delays, ASD, and more. Often I use verbal and/or physical prompts to teach riders to hold reins, post, steer or name parts of the horse etc.

Everyone makes progress in their own way. For some it’s holding the reins consistently and for others it could be independent steering. In horseback riding there’s no pressure or timeline to reach goals.

These lovely school horses have so much to give. They transfer from handler to rider with patience and grace. They look to see who will be my next rider? Which leader will snuggle with me? This is why it’s so important to thank our riding partners each week and show gratitude.

A few Sky Riders enjoyed a trail ride through the woods and saw lots of deer. Everyone had a great time. Sometimes its nice to ride outside of the lesson ring.
