Hey Islanders!

We have something new that washed ashore. We're rolling out — The Bottled Note, a dedicated page where you can find all of Island Health Hut’s updates in one spot.

https://islandhealthhut.com/pages/the-bottled-note

Think of it as our little message-in-a-bottle: a place for wellness tips, healthy recipes, product spotlights, and news about what’s happening in the shop.

Right now it only has a few of our blogs up, but I will also have upcoming events listed on there too. Stay tuned for more to come!

Hiya Islanders, a new article is live! As the holiday weekend winds down, I hope you found a mix of rest and fresh air. I managed to sneak in a little of both.

This blog photo is from my time earning my first degree as a student at Eastern Florida State College. I was fortunate enough to use some grant money to study abroad in Japan. While on Miyajima Island, I wandered into a quiet corner and found this Buddha statue tucked-away just before dark. It was one of those moments that reminded me how important stillness can be, even in the middle of motion.

That’s exactly what this week’s article is about—finding your center when life feels uncertain. A simple practice, like Tree Pose, can steady your body and mind and help you stay rooted as everything shifts around you.

Seasons shift, routines change. Stay centered with simple, grounding practices that bring balance, clarity, and peace to busy days

Hi Islanders, long time no see. 👋

I know I've been quiet and away, but I've been working on more updates as always haha. Today I have something personal to share with you. It's related to a new article I've added to our website about being deprived from nature. You can click on the photo and jump straight to the article.

I took this corresponding photo a few years ago on December 24th, 2021. The crippling weight of trying to figure out everything this business needed during Covid, while dealing with setback after setback, was overwhelming. That year, Christmas didn’t feel like anything. Despite how grim the photo looks, I felt the need to capture the light coming through the window on my bed. Even though the world felt so heavy that morning, I wanted to get up and do it for myself.

I added this photo because it felt like a visual representation of longing for the light and the outside while feeling trapped in the dark. Part of my journey to getting better has been trying to spend time outside. Despite feeling like I've been drowning the last few months, I decided I needed to go back to school to take a couple of photo classes and help me be a better content creator for this business. I’ll be posting some of my photo assignments, tying them into health and wellness information. I also needed to take these classes to help me channel the emotions of carrying all the stress of trying to survive these last few months.

Everyone has been tightening their belt, and sales have been in the gutter despite how much work I am putting into this business. Island Health Hut has grown into such a large entity that it’s hard to believe it’s located in a tiny strip mall — especially for one person to manage. But thankfully I'm sort of getting it done? :)

I try not to stay rooted in struggle, because the business world won't wait around for you. It can absolutely break you multiple times over if you don't know what you're doing. I jumped into the deep end with the sharks when Covid broke out. Despite wanting to go back and finish my undergrad in Biology, Covid halted everything. I was laid off, my dad was diagnosed with cancer, and my mom was crying about what would happen if his cancer progressed and he passed away.

I had to make things happen, trying to survive on less than minimum wage, and slowly build myself up to barely earning that. Even now, I still pick up two other part-time jobs when I can just to get by because I haven’t been able to pay myself. I’m barely hitting operational costs. I’ve tried to learn from my business mistakes and recoup costs where I can, but in the business world, mistakes can be costly. The hardest part is seeing 4 years of growth and increased sales all collapse in a few short months.

I'm working more in the store now by opening up on Sundays, while also extended our hours. It's hard but through it all, every chance to get a sale or meet a new customer matters. I hope to see your smiling faces soon — you’ll still see my smiling face on most days. I’m not throwing in the towel just yet; I’m just getting started, I hope to see you sometime soon

What Is Nature Deficit Disorder? Richard Louv coined the phrase “nature-deficit disorder” in his 2008 book Last Child in the Woods. The term describes the adverse effects of the dearth of nature in the lives of today’s young people, including depression, obesity, and attention disorders. His m...

Only 12 hours until the GRAND OPENING of Field Manor's Gatehouse Market!

We'll be joined by Fruity licks with their delicious Dole soft serve and other treats to help beat the heat. And , , and Norman's Natives will also be joining us, selling their natural and handmade products. Look for their booths in the backyard.
