I thought I broke my neck. When I was younger, I played rugby at a high level. Rugby is like American football without pads or a helmet, and I had collided with another player that was like a brick, like hitting a brick wall. I collapsed to the ground. My head was spinning and my body ached. This situation happened many times per season. Yes, my body was black and blue, but I was a young man and in the prime of my life.
As the season wore on, I started to develop neck pain that radiated into my shoulder blade. I ignored it as usual.
No pain, no gain.
You got to be tough to play this sport, so I ignored it. The pain would come and go, but when the numbness started in my right arm, I knew something needed to be done. Like, pain didn't come from the lack of ibuprofen or aspirin. I didn't want surgery. I needed to find a different solution.
A teammate suggested a chiropractor. Even though I was finishing up my degree in biology and looking forward to graduate school, the idea of a drugless, surgical-less solution intrigued me. My friend told me the chiropractor would go do a thorough consultation, exam, and x-rays if necessary.
