To the (majority of) OB providers: I see you, I want to support you, but we’ve got to do better and stop pretending like this is someone else’s problem.

To the mothers who are struggling: there is hope. Things can get better. I’m sorry if you were someone who didn’t get support, because you certainly deserve it.

Ever wonder about if it’s safe to “do EMDR” while pregnant?

When I first got trained, I was curious, too. I am so grateful for the intersection of my experience in perinatal care, consultation, and training that made me more confident in my ability to administer this form of treatment and share the efficacy of it in the perinatal time.

There are so many fruits that the EMDR model bears, starting with phase one! “Doing EMDR” doesn’t just mean the reprocessing phase - but that’s usually where the magic happens - and it’s not something to be afraid of ✨

I am so grateful for Dr. Andrew Dobo for giving me such a formative foundation, as well as the opportunity to speak and share on this critical population to provide care!

Okay, I feel like this is a true IYKYK situation for EMDR therapists 😂

It is without fail that no matter how many times I may reference “EMDR” (that stands for the Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing model), a handful of clients on my caseload naturally reference it as “EDMR.” And that’s totally cool and normal!

Seriously, there’s no shame if you’ve been this client. Like, none. Honestly, I’m not sure how I don’t get tripped up more with all the acronyms that we explain within this model (but PS: I still do sometimes).

We never judge, but might chuckle to ourself and picture Electric Dance Music for the next hour 🌸 It’s kind of more fun that way TBH. Your humanness is welcome here, and I live for it.

PPS: I would never stop a session because of this or correct you, because that’s not how I roll! Judgement free zone always 🫶🏼

Proud to be a Dobo trained EMDR therapist!

Talk therapy has its place. Clients need to feel heard, understood, and supported.
