Our oldest is 9 today.

He has PANDAS, which we finally diagnosed about six months ago. For years before that, I had zero connection with this boy. Because of his PANDAS, he was so hard to love. And that’s a tough thing to say out loud.

For my wife and I, our whole mentality became just keep him alive and safe. Try not to lose ourselves completely in the process. It was survival. Parents of kids with PANDAS have taken their own lives. That’s how dark and isolating this can get. And I get it. It’s easily been one of the hardest, most soul-testing things I’ve ever done in my life.

But something changed six months ago. We turned a corner. Out of nowhere, love started to come through. Real emotion. Empathy. A softness I had almost stopped believing would ever be there.

And now, our connection is growing every day. I don’t feel like I’m parenting a stranger anymore. I see you now, and I feel you seeing me.

We hold our patient relationships in the highest regard, and today, we'd like to share a remarkable story from Fountain Hills. When I mention my visits to Fountain Hills, some inquire, "Isn't that beyond your usual area of coverage?" To which I reply, "Yes, but there's a special exception for one extraordinary patient."

In 2014, he received a diagnosis of localized prostate cancer, only to have it spread and resurface in 2020. Despite enduring fractures in both femurs, the largest and sturdiest bones in the body, along with a humerus fracture due to metastatic lesions, his spirit remains remarkably resilient. He maintains a hopeful outlook, striving to regain his ability to walk independently and consistently adding to how long he wants and expects to live for. He's an exceptional individual, and we consider it a blessing to be part of his care.

Recently, he faced a significant loss of appetite due to a new, stronger form of cancer treatment. Among the few things he finds enjoyment in eating are eggs, so, naturally, we brought him some from our pasture-raised chickens. *Shared with patient permission

In our collaborative approach to patient care we believe it’s essential for healthcare providers to carefully determine which tests are medically necessary, and how they will impact your treatment. One challenge we’ve observed in urgent care settings is the reliance on standard protocols that include tests for condition such as strep, flu, and COVID-19, often performed before you’ve had a chance to discuss your symptoms with a provider. These tests are billed to insurance and conducted without a comprehensive evaluation, potentially subjecting you to unnecessary and uncomfortable procedures. At Vital AZ we are dedicated to delivering more personalized and effective care in our urgent care visits. Available as in home and clinic visits for both current members and non members.
