🌿 Medicinal benefits of the herb called comfrey (symphytum officinale) are most well known and studied for its wound healing properties, reducing inflammation, and strengthening bones and tissues. Comfrey is used in topical salves/ointments, compresses, poultices, and infused oils. Comfrey is not taken internally due to pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) which may cause liver damage or veno-occulusive disease with prolonged use. Consult a qualified practitioner for monitored exceptions.
👩🏻🌾I recently harvested a good amount of comfrey leaf from my garden and am in the process of drying and using in my next batch of topical products such as my “owie” salve for wound healing, “tender tush” salve for hemorrhoid care, and “bug bite relief” post insect bites. I will hold on the comfrey root harvest a few more months to ensure I get a good crop of nutrient dense roots, in the meantime my harvesting of the leaves will promote more growth at the root level and continue to provide me with the leaves I need in the future. Growing in the Arizona low desert has been amazing for my herbal medicine business allowing me the control of the health of my herbs and sourcing from my love filled backyard!
🧄My Garlic harvest was excellent this year. Probably the most I have had. Much of it was not pictured but given away to family and used in the food that comes out of my kitchen daily. Garlic is a powerful medicinal herb with a long history of use for both culinary and therapeutic purposes. Its health benefits are well-documented and supported by traditional use and modern research. Benefits include the cardiovascular system, antimicrobial and antiviral, immune system booster, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, cancer prevention, metabolic and blood sugar support, respiratory support, and digestive health! Garlic is delicious and extremely beneficial to everyday health!
