🌟Clinician Spotlight: Mike Hanafin, MAPC, M.Ed.🌟
Meet Mike Hanafin, a dedicated therapist at Mental Health Center of America who specializes in helping first responders thrive after emotional and psychological trauma.
What Inspires Mike?
Mike’s passion for mental health stems from his 31-year career as a police officer. Working alongside courageous first responders inspired him to help others recover and grow after significant incidents.
Education & Expertise:
Master of Arts in Professional Counseling (MAPC) – Ottawa University
Master of Education in Educational Leadership (M.Ed.) – Northern Arizona University
Mike began his counseling career in addiction recovery, supporting individuals with trauma and substance dependency. Today, he focuses on first responders and co-occurring disorders.
Professional Background:
Mike’s law enforcement experience includes roles in Patrol, SWAT (breacher, negotiator, supervisor), SAU, HEAT, FTO, Advanced Training Supervisor, Internal Investigator, Peer Support, and Wellness Coordinator.
Beyond the Clinic:
When he’s not working, Mike enjoys photography and spending time with his two German Shepherds. His favorite movies include No Country for Old Men, Castaway, and Fight Club. Favorite books? On Killing, Young Men and Fire, and The Things They Carried.
