1 year ago today, I couldn’t walk
I know this sounds like an extreme exaggeration, but it isn’t.
I woke up to train my clients, and it was a day like any other. I went to stand up out of bed and IMMEDIATELY collapsed.
There was a pain I still can’t describe today shooting down both of my legs and it made putting any pressure onto my legs impossible.
I called my girlfriend at the time and all I said was “I can’t walk”.
We went to urgent care and there was a growth on my lower back about the size of a golf ball putting pressure on my sciatic nerve.
I had issues with infected tissue in the area in the past, but this was easily the worst it had ever been.
Thankfully, I was able to have it removed and drained but there was still a lot of pain for a long time.
I remember thinking all I wanted to do was lift heavy again and thankfully I was able to rehabilitate it.
It took weeks of just stretching, trying to regain strength and comfortability.
It took me a full month to do a squat with just the barbell-
It took me 3 months to squat 225 again.
A year later and I'm constantly squatting over 500 lbs.
The moral of the story here is it’s easy to see the current picture and the current pain.
Whether you’re sick, unhappy with your body, or unhappy with your mental state, to say “this is how I’m always going to be.”
The first step you take is crucial and it can have an exponential impact on where you are a year from now.
So just take that first step, and see where it takes you
