20 lbs down while maintaining strength 📉

Dante has been a client of mine for about 3 months.

He had a strong foundation and wanted to improve his overall form and technique.

Weight loss was a secondary goal for him and it wasn’t mentioned once between us.

I programmed his workouts and nutrition, helping him to create sustainable goals.

We made slight changes to his workout split and cultivated a way to increase his overall strength and aesthetics.

His strength EXPLODED and as a byproduct the weight naturally melted off.

He’s officially under the 200 lb mark lifting as much, if not more than he was at 220 lbs.

Swipe to see his progress-

I’m excited to see what’s next for him.

Reset and Recharge

The biggest blessing and curse that we have in today’s age is we have an extreme level of convenience.

Curious about something? Look it up.

Hungry? Order some food.

Lonely? Download tinder.

We have all these incredible tools and no way to live in the moment.

Working nonstop with no recovery leaves us drained, exhausted, and frustrated.

This is why it’s important to recharge and ground yourself from time to time.

Even as I’m walking around this calming garden today my mind is racing, thinking of the millions of other things that I could be doing.

It’s important to remember though that we all have a breaking point, and at some point or another we need to step away or our bodies will MAKE us,

Whatever you enjoy doing, make time for it-

It’s better to work a little bit less with more productivity than it is to work nonstop with less efficiency,

Take some time for yourself today and send this as a friendly reminder to someone who needs to hear it

1 year ago today, I couldn’t walk

I know this sounds like an extreme exaggeration, but it isn’t.

I woke up to train my clients, and it was a day like any other. I went to stand up out of bed and IMMEDIATELY collapsed.

There was a pain I still can’t describe today shooting down both of my legs and it made putting any pressure onto my legs impossible.

I called my girlfriend at the time and all I said was “I can’t walk”.

We went to urgent care and there was a growth on my lower back about the size of a golf ball putting pressure on my sciatic nerve.

I had issues with infected tissue in the area in the past, but this was easily the worst it had ever been.

Thankfully, I was able to have it removed and drained but there was still a lot of pain for a long time.

I remember thinking all I wanted to do was lift heavy again and thankfully I was able to rehabilitate it.

It took weeks of just stretching, trying to regain strength and comfortability.

It took me a full month to do a squat with just the barbell-

It took me 3 months to squat 225 again.

A year later and I'm constantly squatting over 500 lbs.

The moral of the story here is it’s easy to see the current picture and the current pain.

Whether you’re sick, unhappy with your body, or unhappy with your mental state, to say “this is how I’m always going to be.”

The first step you take is crucial and it can have an exponential impact on where you are a year from now.

So just take that first step, and see where it takes you

“How much weight do you want to lose?”

This is a question that I scrapped from my onboarding process with clients.

Weight loss is an EXTREMELY finite procedure and there are numerous variables including water retention and muscular development.

When I started my lifting journey at 165 lbs I was HYPER-fixated with the number on the scale.

According to the BMI scale, my weight was on the cusp of healthy/overweight.

So naturally when I started lifting, and gaining weight I freaked out.

I didn’t want to be “overweight” and I tried to stay my weight to the best of my abilities.

Fast forward 9 years and nearly 80 lbs of weight gain I’m moving better, feeling better, and living a better overall quality of life.

Wherever you are on your fitness journey remember that the scale can be a great tool to monitor your progress but at the end of the day you should gauge your success based off how you feel and how you move.

Keep pushing forward!

"I already know how to exercise, why would I ever need a personal trainer?"

Listen, I completely get it. If you've been in the gym for a while now I'm sure you know how to set up a workout split, how to do exercises with proper technique, and eat clean.

The thing is, our bodies are CONSTANTLY changing. This is my client Alex. He messaged me saying that he was stuck in a plateau, and was struggling to put on strength and size although he'd been lifting for 2 years.

During our first session everything was there. He had the form down perfect, he knew what to eat, and he knew what worked for his body.

The problem is these are all things that "worked" in the past for him and he needed a hard-reset.

2 months in and he went from putting up 205 lbs on bench press to 245 lbs.

285 lbs on back squat to well over 315 lbs-

and 250 lbs on deadlift to 315 lbs.

Sometimes we get stuck in our programming and we need to take a step back. The results in the stats and the picture speak for themselves.

I've helped beginners and advanced lifters alike break plateaus, feel more confident in their bodies, and create lifelong goals for themselves.

If you're ready to be the next success story comment "transform" down below and we'll have a free goal-setting session where I help you map out the steps needed for you to be successful.

1- Set your feet
Set your feet back as close to your butt as possible. Having a strong leg drive helps to ensure stability of the movement and create energy that starts from the floor for your movement.

2- “Squish” your shoulder blades together
Squeezing your shoulder blades together protects the smaller muscles of the rotator cuff and avoid injury. Imagine that you’re trying to push your back as hard as possible into the bench.

3- Grip
Try to get the bar as far towards your wrist as possible to avoid over exaggeration of wrist flexion.

4- Arch your back
Yup. I said it- although controversial arching your back allows you to keep your back tight and allow for proper alignment of the spine. Make sure you keep your hips on the bench as this is what may prompt back injury.

5- Unrack
Push your back into the bench to help you unrack the weight. You don’t want to waste energy if you’re going for a new PR 💪🏾

6- Breathe in and lower
Take a deep breath and lower the weight to your chest. Breathing in and bracing will allow you to engage your core more and stay stable for the movement.

7- Push through with chest and leg drive
Use your legs to help you push through the movement. A lot of people neglect leg drive during bench and because of this they aren’t able to lift as much.

Thank you for watching/reading. Bench press is a great movement when performed properly. Ensure you’re using proper form and you’ll be well on your way to gaining new strength!
