If your baby suddenly starts waking more at night around 4 months, you’re not alone—and you’re not doing anything wrong. This stage is called the 4-month sleep regression, and it’s actually a sign that your baby is developing exactly as they should!
Here’s what’s really happening:
1. Their Sleep Cycles Are Maturing
At this age, your baby’s brain is transitioning from newborn sleep to more adult-like sleep cycles. They’re now cycling through light and deep stages of sleep, which can cause them to wake more frequently—especially if they haven’t learned to fall back asleep on their own yet.
2. They’re Becoming More Aware
Your baby is suddenly much more aware of the world around them—lights, sounds, movement. This growing sensory awareness can overstimulate their nervous system and make it harder for them to settle and stay asleep.
3. They’re Growing and Moving More
Rolling, kicking, tummy time—so many new movements are happening right now! But those big changes in posture and muscle tone can also create tension or discomfort, especially if your baby’s spine or body isn’t moving freely.
4. How Chiropractic Can Help
Gentle chiropractic care for infants supports a calm, balanced nervous system. If there are any small restrictions or misalignments (which can happen from birth or daily growth), it may affect sleep, digestion, and comfort. Chiropractic adjustments help restore proper motion and function, giving your baby the best chance to feel calm, comfortable, and well-rested during this leap.

Remember: Sleep regression is a sign of progress, not a problem. With patience, support, and the right care (including chiropractic), your baby will move through this phase stronger and more developed than before.
