Many of us know someone who has either worked or resided in an assisted living environment. Assisted living facilities provide thorough care and a sense of community for older adults and individuals living with disabilities. Celebrating National Assisted Living Week September 11-18 gives us a chance to recognize those who play a vital role in making these facilities a success. We are honored to drop off breakfast to say thank you for the amazing things that go on within the world of assisted living!

Once a month we like to shine a spotlight on those caregivers who have a heart of gold. Thank you, Denise, with Aegis Hospice for not just being there for the families you serve, but for being an angel on earth!

Do you know a caregiver who is a shining light for patients and their families? We love honoring those who take pride in their profession and go above and beyond touching the lives of others. This month we are celebrating Denise with Aegis Hospice. "Denise not only provided gentle and dignified care for our mother for several years, she was an amazing resource for our family providing updates several times a week. Letting our mother go was extremely difficult and painful, but Denise helped mend our hearts by explaining the process. We will never be able to thank her enough for the respect she showed all of us in our time of need. Denise is a true angel on earth!"

The Partnered Heart Golden Heart Award highlights a caregiver who goes above & beyond making a difference in the lives of patients and families. We are honored to recognize Dena.

The world needs more people like Dena! We are so pleased to be able to shine a spotlight on her for her kindness and generosity as this month's Partnered Heart Golden Heart Award Winner for her care of Sonya. "My wife went to the clinic for a stomach ache. That night she was sent to the ER and diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer that spread throughout her body, and was affecting her liver. My beautiful wife passed away 17 days later. During this time, Dena was an angel. She visited her in the hospital, stood with us at discharge, was by her side at her first chemo appointment, and helped answer the questions that had us all so confused. Once my wife was discharged, Dena did not disappear. She took a leave from work to care for her dying friend. She was at our home from 8am-11pm every day, and on a couple of occasions stayed the night so we could sleep. Dena gave my wife her medicine, helped her swab and rinse her mouth, bathed her, and most importantly made her laugh and gave us a few extra memories we will cherish forever. Dena was there to say goodbye to Sonya and hasn't stopped caring for our family since. The impact Dena has had on our entire family is exceedingly significant. She will always be our friend, and our hero!"

The Golden Heart Award celebrates caregivers who go above and beyond in their care for others. Every month we honor those healthcare professionals or volunteers nominated by the families we also have the honor of serving for providing exceptional care and support to a patient or family. This month we are celebrating Kelly Oko, a hospice nurse. "Kelly was placed in my home to care for my dying husband. I explained to her how my husband was not so trusting toward many people. He was one of a kind, but she approached my husband so caring, introducing herself to him and explaining how she was here to help him. She came every day to help care for my husband until his last day. I am forever grateful for her and the care she provided. She still sends me caring messages to see how our family is doing. She is truly one of a kind, and heaven sent! She was respectful, and treated us like family, as if she knew us for years. Thank you, Kelly Oko!"
