Get your blood pressure checked at least once a year and understand what the numbers mean. Severe high blood pressure combined with symptoms such as chest pain or trouble speaking may be a hypertensive emergency, according to the new high blood pressure guideline, and you should call 911 immediately.

⚑ AED pad placement is not always one-size-fits-all.

Most people learn the standard adult pad placement first:
βœ… One pad on the upper right chest
βœ… One pad on the lower left side

But there are important times when pad placement may need to change.

Here are a few key reminders:
πŸ”Ή Adults: Standard placement is upper right chest + lower left side
πŸ”Ή Children or small chests: Use front-and-back placement if the pads may overlap
πŸ”Ή Pacemaker or ICD: Place pads at least 1 inch away from the device
πŸ”Ή Medication patches: Remove the patch and place the pad on bare skin
πŸ”Ή Breast tissue: Place the pad under or around breast tissue as needed for proper contact

The most important rule?
πŸ“Œ Always follow the pad diagram on the AED and make sure pads are placed firmly on bare skin.

Knowing these placement differences can help reduce hesitation and improve confidence in a real emergency ❀️

🩹 Choosing the right first aid training provider matters more than people think.

Our latest blog, β€œBest First Aid Training Provider,” breaks down what to look for when comparing training options for yourself, your workplace, or your organization.

A good provider should offer:
βœ… Clear, practical instruction
βœ… Training that fits real-life emergencies
βœ… Credible certification options
βœ… Hands-on learning when needed
βœ… A smooth, professional training experience

The best training is not just about getting a card. It is about leaving with the confidence to actually respond when something happens.

If you are trying to decide which first aid training provider is the right fit, this blog can help you ask better questions before you book.

⚑ AEDs save lives β€” and yes, they should be used on pregnant women when indicated.

If a pregnant person collapses, is unresponsive, and is not breathing normally, treat it as cardiac arrest, call 911, start CPR, and use an AED as soon as one is available. The American Heart Association’s cardiac arrest in pregnancy algorithm specifically says to use an AED/defibrillator when indicated, and Resuscitation Council UK states that it is safe to use an AED on a pregnant person.

A few key reminders:
βœ… Turn on the AED right away
βœ… Place the pads as shown on the device
βœ… Follow the voice prompts
βœ… Continue CPR between shocks if advised
βœ… For a visibly pregnant person, continue high-quality CPR and use left lateral uterine displacement when appropriate during resuscitation. ()

Pregnancy is not a reason to delay defibrillation. The priority is saving the mother’s life, which gives both mother and baby the best chance.

Community Responders offers CPR, AED, and first aid training for individuals, workplaces, and organizations that want to be prepared for real emergencies.

🚨 Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction that can become life-threatening fast.

Warning signs can include:
⚠️ Hives or widespread itching
⚠️ Swelling of the lips, tongue, or throat
⚠️ Trouble breathing or wheezing
⚠️ Vomiting, dizziness, confusion, or fainting

If you think someone is having an anaphylactic reaction:
βœ… Use epinephrine right away if it is available
βœ… Call 911 immediately
βœ… Keep the person as still and safe as possible while waiting for help
βœ… Do not wait to β€œsee if it gets better”

Epinephrine is the first-line emergency treatment for anaphylaxis. Antihistamines do not replace epinephrine in a severe allergic reaction.

Knowing what to do in those first few minutes can make a real difference.

πŸ’² CPR training cost is one of the first questions people ask β€” but price alone does not tell the full story.

Our latest blog, β€œHow Much CPR Training Cost,” breaks down what can affect pricing, including course type, certification level, delivery format, and whether training is for an individual or a group.

A lower price is not always the better value if the course does not fit your needs, meet employer requirements, or prepare you to respond in a real emergency.

Before choosing a class, ask:
βœ… What type of certification do I need?
βœ… Is this for work, healthcare, or personal preparedness?
βœ… Does it include skills testing if required?
βœ… Is it from a trusted training provider?

If you are comparing options and trying to understand what CPR training really costs, this blog will help you make a smarter decision.

⚠️ Seizure emergencies can be frightening, but staying calm and knowing what to do can help keep someone safe.

If someone is having a seizure:
βœ… Stay with them and time the seizure
βœ… Move harmful objects away
βœ… Turn them gently onto their side if they are not awake or aware
βœ… Put something soft under their head
βœ… Loosen tight clothing around the neck

Do not:
🚫 Hold them down
🚫 Put anything in their mouth
🚫 Give food, drinks, or medicine until they are fully awake and alert

Call 911 if:
🚨 The seizure lasts more than 5 minutes
🚨 It is their first seizure
🚨 They are injured, pregnant, having trouble breathing, or do not recover normally afterward

Knowing seizure first aid helps you respond with confidence instead of panic.

🍬 Low blood sugar can turn into an emergency fast.

Shaking, sweating, dizziness, confusion, and trouble walking or talking can all be warning signs. Severe low blood sugar can lead to passing out, seizures, or even coma.

If someone is awake and able to swallow:
βœ… Give 15 grams of fast-acting sugar, such as juice, regular soda, glucose tablets, or hard candy
βœ… Recheck and keep monitoring
βœ… Follow up with a snack or meal if needed

If someone becomes unconscious or cannot safely swallow:
🚨 This is an emergency
🚨 Give glucagon if available
🚨 Call 911 right away or get emergency medical help immediately after glucagon is given

Knowing what to do in those first few minutes can make a real difference.

Community Responders offers CPR, first aid, and emergency response training to help individuals, workplaces, and organizations feel more confident when real emergencies happen.
