Betrayal recovery is about more than stopping a behavior.
It’s about understanding the pain, confusion, and loss of safety that secrecy creates in a relationship.
Many partners aren’t “overreacting.” They’re responding to trauma. And real healing begins when honesty, empathy, and accountability replace defensiveness and minimizing.
Recovery is possible, but lasting repair starts with understanding the impact betrayal leaves behind.

Most of the men I work with want a timeline. They want to know when the consequences end. I want to offer a different way of thinking about it. (see the video on this topic on our YouTube channel )

Exploring the critical difference between shame and acceptance when dealing with compulsive behaviors, particularly po*******hy and sexual addiction. Understanding this distinction is key to recovery.

In treatment, we focus on fixing mistaken negative emotions tied to fundamental human urges. Sometimes, to control these urges, negative thinking is mistakenly applied.

04/26/2026

We often pair negative emotions with core human needs, leading to confusion about what's legitimate. Hunger, a need for energy, is a prime example. If taught that hunger is bad, we learn to suppress it, creating unhealthy binge-restrict cycles. Treatment aims to correct these mistaken negative emotions around basic urges.

Many believe feeling bad enough will stop compulsive actions. This thought pattern, a cognitive distortion, rarely works. While true for non-essential needs, it fails with core bodily functions.
