When grains were placed at the base of the old food pyramid, it didn’t just guide choices - it shaped habits.
Over time, that emphasis normalized refined carbohydrates and crowded out protein and nutrient density for many people.
The new pyramid shifts that focus, which I see as progress. But no graphic can replace context.
A protein-forward diet doesn’t mean chicken nuggets.
Including fats doesn’t mean ignoring balance.
Reducing refined carbs doesn’t mean eliminating complex carbs.
Food quality, timing, sensitivities, and individual needs still matter - especially for blood sugar, hormones, and mental health.
The pyramid is a starting point.
Education is what makes it useful.
