The 26 & 2
This is Hatha style from BC Ghosh. Ghosh was a body builder, a weightlifter, a teacher, an author, and a mentor. He took the Hatha yoga postures from the text: Hatha Yoga Pradipika, and made a series. A standing breathing exercise brings a series of standing postures, a savasana leads to a floor series of postures, and a seated breathing exercise bookends the entire sequence. Literally 26 postures, 2 breathing exercises.
This was my first yoga practice. I learned so much about myself in this practice - aligned and misaligned, as you do. It was at the trailhead of my yoga journey 16 years ago. The practice showed me contrast, something I needed to experience to fully know my own self. And for that, I am grateful and blessed.
Iām teaching this practice today. I find myself nostalgic, reverent, and emotional. Today, Iām teaching this practice in the way my soul needs, and not a copy of anyone else. Today I am redeeming something within myself, and Iām honored to do it.
