Parent Tip✨
Sensory Break Spaces at Home

Big feelings are normal. A calm spot at home can really help.

Create a simple sensory break corner using:

💎A soft rug or blanket

💎Your child’s favorite stuffed animals or pillows

💎Soft or calming lights (like a small lamp or string lights)

When your child starts to feel overwhelmed, gently guide them to this space for a few minutes of quiet. Even short breaks can help them reset, feel safer, and refocus for the rest of the day.

Save this post for later & share it with another parent who might need a reminder.

🧩 Behavior Plans are not one-size-fits-all.

A behavioral plan is created to decrease challenging behaviors and increase positive, functional skills.

And here’s something families should always remember:
It’s okay if the first plan doesn’t work perfectly.

At Arizona Autism Clinic, our BCBAs use data to understand what’s happening, track progress, and adjust the plan as needed. They have multiple tools and strategies to choose from, so the goal is always to find what works best for your child—not force a child to fit one approach.

Progress isn’t about perfection. It’s about improving the plan until it fits. 💛

A small language shift can make a big difference. 💛

When you praise your child, try skipping the “but.”
Because “but” can quietly cancel the compliment that came before it.

Instead of:
❌ “You did great, but you need to listen better.”

Try:
✅ “You did great!”
✅ “I love how you tried your best.”
✅ “I’m proud of your effort.”
✅ “You worked so hard on that.”

Autistic children deserve praise that feels safe, clear, and full.
Celebrating what went well builds confidence and strengthens progress over time.

Notice the effort. Praise the win. Keep it positive.

At Arizona Autism Clinic, ABA is about building skills that children use every day.

With true 1:1 support and child-specific treatment plans, we help children:
🗣 Communicate their needs: asking for help, making choices, sharing what they want
👥 Grow social skills: sharing, taking turns, joining in play
🌟 Practice daily living skills: following routines, dressing, brushing teeth, and cleaning up

We use play, positive reinforcement, and lots of practice so these skills show up at home, at school, and in the community.

💬 Question for you:
What is one skill you would love to see your child feel more confident with?
