Spent the entire day with my family, just enjoying each others company 💗 We didn't even realize how much time went by, but I still gave Terry his weekly Sunday night hour foot massage, the inspiration for this post.
Massaging feet is actually what inspired me to go to massage school in the first place. I massage from the feet to the knees, and depending on any tension, I include a bit of work on the quads as well for a foot massage. The veins that are in our legs, curves around our ankles, and through our feet, sends blood back to our heart, thus foot massage improves circulation to the heart, as well as cardio.
Most people are familiar with Reflexology, and how there's an area on the foot for each part of the body, but there are also acupressure points, marma points, energy channels, and more I haven't studied yet, in our feet to ground us, reset the body, clear sinuses, relieve headaches, release tension, can clear sciatica, release stagnant emotions, balance and relax the body, and more.
Massage your own feet, and massage the feet of someone you love. Use a foot cream or Shea butter for a smooth, consistent glide that isn't slippery. Regular lotion is not great for massaging feet; it dries fast and have you fighting with crumbles, not fun lol. Oil is good, especially if you warm it, but it can be messy and slippery, so I think it's good for a soothing foot rub.
Use your fist and knuckles on the bottom of the feet. You don't want to use your thumbs, especially not being trained, because it's so easy to bend it back, or to the side, and hurt it. Squeeze the heels and hold them so tension can just melt away from the whole body- it's so amazing for the lower back too! Do small circular motions using your finger tips around the ankle bones, go up the leg, and do circular motions around the knee, then glide back down to the foot, stretching each toe and spreading the little bones on top of the foot.
It feels soooo good and it's very beneficial for the body. I love catering to feet lol so I will probably do a demo on Mya, but that's a simple foot massage you can do on someone you love, and it's important to love yourself first ❤️
I surprisingly don't offer a foot treatment in my services, but I do have a foot protocol that's not very relaxing in a Body Balance session that removes heaviness and relieves aching feet.
