Be prepared for the total solar eclipse this Monday, April 8th, 2024!
A total solar eclipse happens with the moon passes between the sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the sun. This will occur in the Dallas area on Monday, April 8th, starting at 12:23PM with totality between 1:40-1:44PM and the partial ending at 3:02PM.
NEVER look directly at the sun or solar eclipse without proper protective eye wear! Regular sunglasses are not sufficient. You must use safe solar viewing glasses, or you can also use an indirect viewing method with a pinhole projector. If you are looking through a camera lens, binocular, or telescope, you must also use a solar filter over the front of the optics. Here is a list of approved solar viewing glasses and filters:

Looking directly at the sun or solar eclipse may lead to a condition called solar retinopathy that can cause irreversible damage to the central vision. Symptoms include a blind spot in the middle of the vision, central vision distortion, abnormal color vision, seeing images smaller than they are, and headaches. If you or anyone you know has these symptoms, please see your eye doctor immediately.
Enjoy this year’s total solar eclipse safely! We will not have another one in the United States until 2044!
