It’s National Medicare Education Week! September 15 – 21 is used to educate Medicare beneficiaries, families, caregivers and healthcare workers about Medicare, the enrollment process, the enrollment period which starts October 15, and ways to prevent fraud, all while empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their healthcare coverage.
What You Should Know:
• Annual Enrollment Period: Oct 15 – Dec 7 each year.
• Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period: Jan 1 – Mar 31. If you already have a Medicare ADV plan, this gives you one more chance to make a change for the new year, like switching to a different Advantage plan or going back to Original Medicare.
Why This Matters Especially in a Skilled Nursing Facility:
When you’re in a skilled nursing facility, the details of your plan can affect things like: what services are covered, which providers are in network, whether you’ll have higher copays or extra approvals required.
So the plan you pick now can make a big difference later...
What to Do During National Medicare Education Week:
1. Compare your current plan vs what might be available during Annual Enrollment Period
2. Read any letters or notices your plan sends you about benefit or cost changes
3. Ask questions — especially about how a plan handles skilled nursing, facility stays, or your particular care needs
4. If you’re unsure, call our amazing Business Office Managers here at our community. They’re ready to help explain differences & answer any questions to help you figure out what works best for you and your future.
