Father Mychal F. Judge dedicated his life to serving God's people. He is known for his work with the homeless, recovering addicts, and AIDS patients, and his work as chaplain to the New York City Fire Department.

On September 11, 2001, Father Mychal rushed from the friary at Saint Francis of Assisi Church to the scene of the World Trade Center attacks.
​
Father Mychal was in the North Tower when he was killed.
He became the first officially recorded fatality following the attack.

Labor Day is a celebration of workers' rights and achievements, honoring the contributions of countless individuals who drive our economy and communities forward. Let’s embrace their spirit and dedication today!

Thanks to the Labor Movement, many of us have been afforded safer working conditions, more reasonable hours, such as the 40-hour workweek, minimum wage, and protections against child labor. The holiday became federal law in 1894 under President Grover Cleveland, in part as a response to the violent Pullman Strike in the same year, during which troops were sent to break the strike, resulting in violence and the arrest of union leaders.

The strike ultimately failed, but it significantly impacted labor law by demonstrating the power of organized labor and leading to increased government intervention in labor disputes. ✊✊
