If this doesn’t show you what our coaches mean to our community here at The Training Room, I’m not sure what does.

Yes, we coach. We correct form, we push limits, and we demand excellence — but it goes far beyond that.

We become friends, motivators, and a listening ear. Sometimes we push you further than you thought you could go, but always with purpose and care.

Thomas Dominick is the Head Coach and Manager of Training Room NOLA, where he oversees programming, coaching, staff management, personal training, and overall gym operations. He brings over a decade of experience in the functional fitness and CrossFit space, with a strong background in athlete development, performance programming, and organizational leadership.
Thomas has been coaching since 2014, beginning at Metairie CrossFit before stepping into head coaching roles at CrossFit Roux and CrossFit NOLA. He later founded and led Vanguard Fitness as head coach and programmer, further developing his structured approach to long-term athlete development and performance-based training systems. His experience spans group classes, competitive athletes, and individualized personal training across all levels of fitness.
Alongside his coaching career, Thomas served eight years in the Army National Guard, achieving the rank of Sergeant. During his service with the 769th Engineer Battalion, he was nominated three times for Soldier of the Year and earned NCO of the Year for the state of Louisiana and his unit. His military background reinforces his leadership style, discipline, and systems-based approach to coaching and gym management.
As an athlete, Thomas has a diverse competitive background rooted in endurance sports and strength disciplines. He ran track and cross country at EJ before transitioning into CrossFit in 2012, where he has continued to compete at a high level. His athletic experience also includes half marathons, 10Ks, 5Ks, Olympic weightlifting competitions, and powerlifting meets. This year marks his qualification into high-level CrossFit Semifinals competition, further strengthening his performance-driven coaching perspective.

We’re really big fans of functional fitness here.

What do we mean?

To us, functional fitness means training your body for everyday activities, and to make daily motion easier and safer.

When we practice functional fitness, it’s for activities like:
✅ Carrying groceries
✅ Picking up children
✅ Hiking
✅ Being mobile on the floor

But fitness isn’t always fun. Sometimes it’s hard to get moving.

That’s why we’ve created a beautiful space with awesome workouts and built an amazing community to do it all with.

No matter what sport an athlete plays — soccer, baseball, volleyball, football, basketball, or anything else — building a strong athletic foundation makes a huge difference.

Here are just a few benefits of adding strength, speed, and agility training:

1️⃣ Better overall athleticism
Learning how to run, jump, land, and change direction properly improves performance in every sport. Athletes move faster, react quicker, and feel more in control of their bodies.

2️⃣ Increased strength and confidence
As athletes get stronger, they naturally become more confident in their abilities. That confidence shows up in practices, games, and even outside of sports.

3️⃣ Reduced risk of injury
Strength training and proper movement mechanics help support growing joints and muscles, which can help reduce the risk of common youth sports injuries. Stronger athletes are more resilient athletes.

Trying new things can be... unnerving. We get it.

So we recently asked our members what their biggest apprehensions were before joining, here’s what one member had to say:

“I’d have to say that the biggest challenge was that I never had actually done classes like this before so it seemed like a mountain to climb at first. I didn’t know what to expect since I kind of blindly joined after spending several years at my other gym. I didn’t know ANYONE so it seemed so daunting...

There have been phases in which I wouldn’t go for several days but the coaches would always check up on me because they really do give a damn about my wellbeing, the team more than cares about all of its members and it certainly shows!”

It’s ok if what we do here seems hard. Because, frankly, it is. But that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing.

We’re here to help show you that you can do the hard things. And not only can you do them, but you can absolutely crush them.
