Trigger point injections are a great way to address areas of muscle within which knots, also known as trigger points, are present. These knots can be felt through the skin's surface, and when touched they may twitch involuntarily, thus irritating and trapping nearby nerves which in turn causes referred pain. Trigger point injections can be used to treat various muscle groups throughout the body such as those in the arms, legs, lower back and neck. They are often utilized to treat fibromyalgia, chronic tension headaches and Myofascial Pain Disorder that doesn't respond to other treatments. The procedure itself is quick and easy; it usually lasts no more than 5 minutes and patients remain conscious throughout. A small needle is inserted into the trigger point area followed by a local anesthetic or local anesthetic with steroid injection - both of which will help to reduce pain. Contact us today to find out if you're a candidate for trigger point injections for pain relief. https://posm.org/sports-medicine/

Nerve block injections can effectively treat acute or chronic pain conditions. By blocking pain signals along targeted nerves, these procedures aim to provide patients relief from painful symptoms and inflammation. Additionally, nerve blocks allow for the diagnosis of the underlying source of a patient's pain by observing their response to the medication. This diagnostic information can then be used to develop a customized treatment plan for the individual. Nerve blocks are performed using image guidance technologies like CT or fluoroscopy to precisely deliver medication to the targeted area associated with the pain. This image-guided approach helps ensure the safe and effective treatment of pain while minimizing risks. Contact Pontchartrain Othopedics & Sports Medicine today to find out if you're a candidate. https://posm.org/pain-management/

Curious about Regenerative Medicine? Regenerative medicine, also known as orthobiologics offers a great opportunity to decrease pain, improve function and heal tissue with much shorter recovery times. One of the newest treatment options for musculoskeletal injuries and problems, these specialized treatments are an excellent alternative to repetitive corticosteroid injection or surgical intervention. Unlike our traditional treatment options that focus on addressing symptomatic improvement, the goal of regenerative medicine procedures is to improve or replace damaged tissue. Regenerative medicine procedures can be safely performed in an office or operative setting with very minimal risk. A pain management specialist is a doctor who has additional education and training in the physiology of pain, how it develops and how pain signals are transmitted throughout the body. Most pain management specialists have completed at least one year of training in all aspects of pain management after residency training. This is known as a fellowship.

When a physician has become board certified in their primary specialty and has completed an accredited fellowship, they become eligible for subspecialty board certification in pain management by the American Board of Anesthesiology, the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
