❓ Will I have exercises to do at home?

Absolutely! In nearly all treatment plans, your physical therapist will provide a personalized Home Exercise Program (HEP) designed specifically for your diagnosis, goals, and daily lifestyle. These exercises help reinforce what you worked on during your in-clinic sessions and support your body’s healing process between visits.

Your home program may include:
🔹 Strengthening exercises
🔹 Mobility and stretching work
🔹 Balance or coordination training
🔹 Posture or movement retraining
🔹 Functional activities that mimic daily tasks

🧠 Why it matters:
Recovery doesn’t just happen in the clinic. It happens through consistent movement and repetition.

Completing your home exercises helps:
✔ Improve strength and stability faster
✔ Reduce pain between sessions
✔ Prevent symptoms from returning
✔ Enhance long-term results
✔ Shorten overall recovery time

Think of your home program as your treatment homework. It keeps your progress moving forward even when you’re not on the treatment table. The more committed you are, the better the outcomes you’ll see. 💪🏼

From surgery to strength! 🙌🏼 Judith worked hard to overcome challenges after a complete ankle break. Proving that with dedication (and the right team!), recovery is possible.

⭐️

“Jan 6, 2023 was the beginning of a long journey I did not plan to take. I had a complete break of my left ankle. My first surgery was Feb 1. I was able to start PT on April 11. I was not very hopeful. I had so much atrophy in the calf and foot due to not using it. That is when I met Destiny. After my initial evaluation I knew I was in good hands. Her medical knowledge as well as her beautiful personality made me feel more secure and confident of my recovery. After several visits I then met Wes. He demonstrated great knowledge and compassion. Destiny & Wes are the best duo team! They would collaborate with my recovery in mind, both physically and emotionally.
My second surgery was July 3. I was afraid of regressing. With the two of them I kept progressing. I never thought I would be to this point in recovery at this time. From the minute I walk in the door there is a smiling face with “Good Morning” and when leaving “Have a Good Day!” In between the atmosphere in the treatment area is so positive and stimulating. The PTs and techs work together.
They seem like a big happy family.
I will miss all of you!”

When someone receives a cancer diagnosis, their primary focus is typically on treating the disease itself with interventions like surgery, chemotherapy, radiation. But what many might not realize is how cancer can affect the mind in addition to the body. Survivors frequently face emotional challenge...

Healing that shows on and off the golf course. ⛳️
Proud of your progress, Ben! 💪🏼

⭐️
“I’m a college golfer at Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL. I was diagnosed with a rare ankle condition that was probably caused by an old injury. My mom came to CPT and talked with Adam and Jeff about what was going on with me, and they felt confident they could help. That’s when I decided to give it a try.
Looking back, I’m really glad I did. From beginning to end, I’ve seen big improvements in my ankle and in my golf game. The team always gave me the right exercises and the guidance I needed to build strength safely. I used to have trouble walking 18 holes and had to use a compression sleeve every time I played. Now, I don’t need it anymore, and I’m not sore after workouts.

Thank you to Jeff, Adam, and the whole staff for making sure I did everything the right way, pushing me, and helping me get back to doing what I love at an even better level than before.”

❓ Can physical therapy help me avoid surgery?

In many cases, yes! Physical therapy can be an effective, conservative treatment option that may help you manage pain, improve mobility, and restore strength and function. Often reducing or even eliminating the need for surgery.

When you participate in PT, your therapist will focus on:
🔹 Improving joint and tissue mobility
🔹 Strengthening muscles that support the injured area
🔹 Correcting movement patterns and posture
🔹 Reducing inflammation and pain
🔹 Educating you on safe movements and activity modification

By addressing the root causes of pain or dysfunction, your body may heal and adapt on its own without surgical intervention.

However, physical therapy is not always a one-size-fits-all solution. Some conditions (such as severe structural damage, major tears, fractures, or situations involving nerve compression or instability) may still require surgery. Even in those cases, PT plays a valuable role before and after surgery to improve outcomes, reduce complications, and speed up recovery.

💡 Think of PT as your first step, not your last resort.
Starting with a conservative approach allows you to explore what your body is capable of with the right guidance, support, and exercise.
