Schonberg and Associates was founded in 2001 by David Schonberg, a Louisiana native who set out to realize his dream of setting a new standard in the assisted living and memory care industry. In 2001, Schonberg & Associates broke ground on the Suites at Sugar Mill Point in Houma, LA. The area’s first and only premier assisted living and memory care community, The Suites at Sugar Mill Point opened its doors in October 2002. A pillar of the surrounding community, The Suites remains the flagship community of Schonberg & Associates, and the original model from which Schonberg & Associates continues to grow and perfect his Assisted Living and Memory Care portfolio. Shortly after The Suites began quickly filling up its 36 beautifully appointed units, Schonberg & Associates debuted another exemplary assisted living and memory care community—Alden Pointe in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Opening just months before the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in June 2005, Alden Pointe seamlessly navigated the worst natural disaster on record in the region by maintaining unwavering care for each resident, and it continues to provide that exceptional level of care to residents today. With two successful properties under their belt, Schonberg & Associates focused on growing their business and diversifying geographically. In 2009, Schonberg purchased and assumed management of three existing South Carolina communities, bringing them up to the Schonberg standard of operations and further honing his expertise and command in the industry. These South Carolina communities have all shown remarkable improvements in quality of care and resident satisfaction as a result of Schonberg & Associates’ leadership of staff, building renovations, and improvements in nutritional and enrichment programs. In Fall 2011, Schonberg & Associates broke ground ground on their sixth assisted living and memory care community in a place that is especially close to David Schonberg's heart- his hometown of Luling, LA. Ashton Manor is a state-of-the-art assisted living and memory care community beautifully landscaped on six acres within the Ashton Plantation subdivision. The 60-unit property features a secure Alzheimer's/dementia unit, a beautiful rotunda, a chapel, a theatre, and even an ice cream parlor. Following Ashton Manor, Schonberg opened Vista Shores Assisted Living and Memory Care in New Orleans. The legendary former site of the Vista Shores Country Club, the property was also a senior living community prior to Hurricane Katrina, when it was flooded and left abandoned by the previous owners. Schonberg & Associates completely renovated and updated the community, which opened in 2012. John, Vista Shores features grand water views and spectacular outdoor recreational areas, a beauty parlor, and a comfortable bistro where residents enjoy the New Orleans cuisine they love. In their most revolutionary project to date, Schonberg & Associates partnered with leading Alzheimer’s and dementia experts to develop Beau Provence, the first and only memory-care exclusive assisted living community in the greater New Orleans area. The highly-anticipated community opened it’s doors in Mandeville, LA in September of 2012. Beau Provence offers two stunning and distinct memory care neighborhoods, Pontchartrain and Fontainebleau, which include 40 state-of-the-art private and semi-private suites, two therapeutic gardens and sun rooms, their own gourmet dining areas, and access to The Schonberg Alzheimer’s Education and Support Center, which provides family and community members with valuable memory care resources. A highly experienced memory care director and activities director are on staff to ensure that residents benefit from specially designed programs tailored to meet their individual needs, and the community’s care is being monitored and overseen by celebrated dementia care specialist Kim Warchol, OTR/L, DCCT, an expert in the Allen Cognitive Disabilities Model who has educated over 5,000 therapists and other healthcare professionals on the best-abilities approach to dementia treatment and programming. Most recently, Schonberg & Associates acquired Camellia Gardens Retirement Community in Slidell, LA, and continues to build upon the establishment’s reputation of excellence in assisted living and memory care under the new name Park Provence, starting a $1 million dollar renovation that ensures the highest level of luxury comfort and care for its residents. Uniquely positioned as a leading expert in both the strategy behind developing and building top-notch Assisted Living and Memory Care communities and their day-to-day management and operations, Schonberg & Associates has no plans of slowing down.
