While it certainly matters WHAT the words are that you tell someone, remember that HOW you say it is also very important. Your emotional state (cold or warm, detached or involved, minimally interested or very interested in that person), plus your vocal tone and body language... All elements communicate your deeper meaning to the other person. Communicating a good amount of your warmth to others is very helpful in their receptivity and cooperativeness.
