I have fallen off of the social media world, but don't worry, I'm back! I am sad about all of the birth announcements I missed over the last several months but can't wait to get back on the train and celebrate with the beautiful families I get to work with.

In a sprint of a labor, an expert mama but first time home birther welcomed her little boy. Thankfully and I beat him to the party, but only with enough time to get into the house. It was such a blessing to walk this path with this family.

Our next Lamaze childbirth education series is starting next month!

Lamaze isn’t just about breathing techniques (though we cover that too!). It’s a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to pregnancy, labor, and birth that helps you understand what’s happening in your body, what your options are, and how to make informed choices along the way.

Through interactive learning, movement, and discussion, you’ll build confidence, reduce fear, and prepare both your mind and body for birth. You’ll also learn practical tools for comfort, communication, and advocacy, so you can enter your birth feeling informed, supported, and empowered.

Because when parents know their options, they can make the decisions that feel right for them.

As we wrapped up Lamaze series 5 this past weekend, I ended the class thinking about how truly excited I am for these parents as they prepare to meet their babies with knowledge, confidence, and intention. I’m praying for safe, peaceful, and empowering birth experiences. Feeling grateful knowing they’re walking into this experience educated, supported, and ready to advocate for themselves and their babies.

We’re excited to share the findings of a new report published in the European Journal of Midwifery on the Spinning Babies® approach and its role in promoting fetal head rotation during labor.

Key Findings:
✅ Women whose babies began labor in occiput-posterior or occiput-transverse positions, 93.3% of those who used Spinning Babies® techniques experienced rotation to the anterior position by delivery.

💡In contrast, only 63.6% of women in the control group (who did not use Spinning Babies®) saw that rotation.

✅ Use of Spinning Babies® was associated with a 45% increased likelihood of achieving anterior positioning (RR = 1.45; 95% CI: 1.23–1.72), after adjustment for parity and analgesia.

What does this mean?
While the study is retrospective and further research is needed, these results suggest that Spinning Babies® techniques may help support more optimal fetal positioning during labor, potentially making the birthing process smoother for many women. 🫶

We’re thrilled to see clinicians and researchers beginning to examine what many of us in the birth-work community have long observed. ❤️

Special accommodations were made for our in-person portion for series 4. While we couldn’t all gather together, I’m glad everyone got to attend in person.

I love being with families in person to prepare for birth! Watching couples grow in confidence and empower themselves with knowledge is so rewarding. These classes are about more than information, we form connection, build courage, and trust in the beautiful design of birth. As these families move toward labor, my prayers go with them that their hard work brings them strength, peace, and a readiness for birth that being fully informed brings.

Families who choose home birth often value the ability to birth in a familiar environment, surrounded by trusted support, and with continuity of care from a midwife who knows them well. This model prioritizes autonomy, individualized attention, and respect for the natural process of birth, while also maintaining the skills and tools necessary for safety.

Unfortunately, many people still hear myths that home birth is “unsafe” or “irresponsible.” The truth is, informed choice is the foundation of safe maternity care. Every family deserves access to accurate information about all of their options, not fear-based messaging.

A home birth is more than a location, it’s a philosophy. It centers the birthing woman and protects the natural rhythm of labor.

If you’re imagining chaos or lack of support, home birth might surprise you. It’s most often peaceful, focused, and deeply personal.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that baby should sleep in the same room as the parents for the first 6 months.

While they don’t support bed-sharing, they do recognize that when moms are too afraid to bring their baby into bed, they instead choose to nurse on the couch or armchair, where the risk of suffocation is up to 67 times higher if the mother falls asleep.

Therefore, they recommend that if there is even the slightest possibility that you may fall asleep while breastfeeding, that you bring your baby into bed to nurse, and then return them to their own sleep space when done.

When done safely, cosleeping offers many advantages for both mom and baby. It supports the longevity of the breastfeeding relationship and supports baby’s physiology - being close to mom helps regulate baby’s breathing, heart rate, and stress hormones.
