It looks as if some laughing leprechauns were let loose in our Locke Building recently. Residents are getting into the spirit brought on by this week’s celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.

Later today, we’ll hunt down the little rascals with a St. Pat’s Day scavenger hunt. Tuesday, Irish classic dishes all day then we’ll put down our shillelaghs, don some green & kick up our gold buckled shoes at our St. Patrick’s Day Bash!

What better way to celebrate Pi Day than with pies… Pizza pies, that is. Residents enjoyed fresh hot pizza in the Bistro on Friday in pre-celebration of the official Pi Day (Saturday, 3/14). A selection of pepperoni, peppers & onions and classic cheese satisfied our group’s appetite for the piping hot Italian favorite. Anyway you slice it, pizza always promotes a party.

Spring is in the air & our residents are definitely feeling the fever. Our crafters made one-of-a-kind Easter cards this morning to spring us forward & get us ready for warmer weather.

Each resident started with a card kit that contained a collection of cut-to-size patterned shapes for layering, die-cut bunnies, chicks & bows to be colored and affixed and stick-on jewels & Easter eggs chosen to bring our creations to life.

Great job to all who participated and a huge THANK YOU to Life Enrichment Director Mark’s dear friend, Nicole, for sharing her talent & supplies with us. Happy Easter from The Woods at Merrimack!

Our recent Sunday Breakfast Buffet featured an “as you like it” omelet station. Chef David was on hand preparing fresh omelets as residents chose cheeses, vegetables and meats to be added to their one-of-a-kind creation. Our buffet occurs the third Sunday of every month and is a resident favorite not to be missed.

Residents spent Saturday night out on the town & what a spectacular night it was!

We were honored to have been invited to attend Firebird Pops Orchestra’s performance of Hollywood in Methuen. Along with special guest all the way from England, Peter Mills, the night showcased the orchestra’s undeniable and awe-inspiring range as the ensemble mastered many of John Williams’ contributions to the movie industry & beyond.

The concert kicked off Methuen’s season long 300th Birthday Celebration. Happy Birthday to our beloved Pleasant Valley of Methuen, Massachusetts! A huge THANK YOU to the Methuen 300th Anniversary Committee for gifting us an experience we’ll never forget!

Even residents who had toured the Sistine Chapel in Rome were impressed & awed by this exhibition. What a day we had learning about the artist & experiencing the masterpiece in a new, innovative way in Cambridge, MA.

There’s a new girl in town. We recently upgraded the Keurig coffee system in our Bistro. Residents can help themselves to hot or iced coffee 24/7. Yet another reason life is good at The Woods.

Congratulations to resident, Evelyn R, who won our game of Mahjong on Monday. Our weekly games began just 8 short weeks ago & we are all still self-described beginners. But the group is getting its footing and residents love the ancient game.

Chefs David & Sean created a superb menu for this month’s Chef’s Dinner. Residents began the five-course meal with Quattro Formaggi or four cheeses plated alongside pistachios and pomegranate seeds. Mussels & Frites, Duck Leg Confit with Shiitake Mushroom sauce & Beef Tenderloin & 1/2 Lobster Tail definitely satisfied before the grand finale, Crepes Suzette served with buttery orange sauce and Grand Marnier. Each course was perfectly paired with a hand selected Wine, dessert paired with Cognac. Life is good at The Woods.

As the saying goes, March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. This month’s fun-filled calendar will undoubtedly provide moments to roar about as well as easy opportunities to slow down and embrace the new growth and warm feelings of Spring.

We’ll experience Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel in a new, immersive way in Cambridge on the 6th & kick off Methuen’s 300th Birthday celebration with a Firebird Pops concert on the 7th.

We’ll continue our goal of Blue Zone living every Friday this month & learn more about our local hero Philip J. O’Connell as we gather together on Wednesdays to read from his diary. We’ll hunt leprechauns on the 16th & dance the night away to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on the 17th before we love to hate Mean Girls with a production at Windham HS on the 21st.

Be sure not to miss Easter Card Making on the 12th, Pi Day Pizza Party on the 13th, Garden Club Seed Planting & Breakfast Buffet the weekend of the 14th, DUNKIN’ run on the 24th, 2 Demos with Chef David on the 10th & 24th, Watercolors with Gerri on the 25th & Lunch at Texas Roadhouse on the 27th.

Winter is almost over, folks. Let’s have some fun as we await the first buds of Spring. Roar!
