🫁November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month.🫁
The only recommended screening test for lung cancer is low-dose computed tomography (also called a low-dose CT scan, or LDCT). During an LDCT scan, you lie on a table and an x-ray machine uses a low dose (amount) of radiation to make detailed images of your lungs. The scan only takes a few minutes and is not painful.

📍Who should be screened?
The US Preventive Services Task Force (Task Force) recommends yearly lung cancer screening with LDCT for people who:

✅Have a 20 pack-year or more smoking history, and
Smoke now or have quit within the past 15 years, and
✅Are between 50 and 80 years old.
✅A pack-year is smoking an average of one pack of ci******es per day for one year. For example, a person could have a 20 pack-year history by smoking one pack a day for 20 years or two packs a day for 10 years.

U.S. Antibiotic Awareness Week (USAAW), every November 18-24, raises awareness of the importance of appropriate antibiotic and antifungal use and the threat antimicrobial resistance (AR) poses to people, animal, plants, and their shared environment.

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has recognized Massac Memorial Hospital in the Acute Care Antimicrobial Stewardship Honor Roll for its outstanding commitment to optimizing antimicrobial use and improving patient outcomes across Illinois. Massac Memorial Hospital has been awarded Silver status recognition. In addition to Silver status, Massac Memorial Hospital has earned the Collaboration Distinction recognizing exemplary efforts to build partnerships that advance antimicrobial stewardship across healthcare and community settings. This distinction highlights leadership in promoting shared learning, data exchange, and coordinated action to improve antimicrobial use.

Massac Memorial Hospital is proud to share that our Radiology Department has donated $232.00 to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research.

During the month of October, MMH pledged $1 for every mammogram performed, and thanks to our community taking charge of their health, we completed 232 mammograms in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
