The board met at Massac Memorial Hospital’s main lobby in front of the gift shop. Three members were not in attendance.
Visitors to the meeting were new Auxilary members, Vicki Taylor, Sue Sandusky and Peggy McNeill.
Action taken by the board:
The board approved the minutes from the Jan. 3rd board meeting. A question was brought up about extending the military discount to emergency responders. No action was taken.
The board approved the treasurer’s report, which included :
a bank balance of $15,487.76. A payroll deduction deposit of $625.62 was made on Feb. 6. The weekly deposit was $949.34, of which $10 was membership.
There were Dec. payroll deduction deposits of $3,679.33 made on Jan. 8 and $2,063.92 madw on Jan. 29, for a total of $5,743.25.
The Auxiliary is in a different tax bracket and we must file monthly starting as of January, by the 20th of each following month. In January, $235 was paid in sales tax on Feb. 2.
In the Gift Shop report, the shop was closed Jan. 26th & 27th due to inclement weather.
As a companion, in January 2025, sales were $421.93. In January 2026, sales were $4,020.11.
It was reported that having regular hours, inventory and payroll deduction for hospital employees have helped.
Also noted in the report, the shop cannot be open after 4:30 p.m. or on weekends to the public, due to security and fire rules. The gift shop report was approved unanimously.
Under old business :
The board reviewed the order form and flyer for the Boxed Lunch Grab & Go and had some minor changes, but once made, it looked good to go. All orders will be pre-paid either at the gift shop or through PayPal.
In new business :
The board discussed the meeting location for the future board meetings. It was agreed the board would hold its March meeting at the Illinois Extension Office and see how that goes before deciding if they want to continue with meetings there or go back to meeting at the community center conference room.
A motion was made approving Michele Longworth, Kelley Sullivan and Marnita Werts as the 2026 scholarship committee.
A motion was also made and approved that the Auxiliary would participate in the America’s 250th celebration on July 4th.
Also mentioned in new business, was that the hospital wants to hold another volunteer appreciation luncheon for the Auxiliary, in April. No action was taken.
In the president’s report, the board heard about USA Birthday Bingo, a promotion that would get Auxiliary members to visit the businesses participating in the Perks Card. If a person got a line on their bingo card, they would get a ticket into a drawing for a “presidential prize,” of $250.
It was discussed that the bingo card should not state the winner would have to be present to win. But no action was taken on that item.
President Longworth had paperwork to be signed for the raffle license and for the annual report to the Illinois Secretary of State’s office.
She reported the scholarship information was mailed to local guidance counselors the second weekend in January.
Flyers for the Gas Up at Acee’s for the month of March were handed out, as well as a community outreach flyer that would elicit support from businesses and their patrons in honor of the hospital’s 70th anniversary and in honor of National Hospital Week.
Also mentioned was the idea of having greeting cards at the gift shop and encouraging people to sign their name to a card, which would be taken to the nurses station and delivered to a patient. The initiative is Brighter Day Greetings - to help brighten the day of the patients at the hospital. Members seemed to like the concept but no action was taken. Longworth told the board she had reached out to the hospital CEO and he and the director of nursing did not have a problem with that idea.
