Dorothy Sue Morgan was born May 10, 1949, to James Parrott and raised by Dorothy Parrott, in Paducah, KY and passed away on May 1, 2026 at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis.

A loving housewife who enjoyed being with family, taking care of grandchildren, line dancing, playing cards, gardening, and bird watching. Taking care of everyone was her life. She had a great sense of humor who loved making people laugh.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Parrott and mother, Dorothy Parrott of Paducah.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Robert Morgan of Metropolis; her three children, Cameron Morgan, Richard (Peggy) Brewer, and Michelle (Brad) Toy; six grandchildren, Robin Brewer, Adam (Ashley) Darnell, Hailee Toy (Timothy), Robert Brewer (Elleana), Reagan Brewer (Nathan), and Rylee Wehrmeyer (Matthew); five great grandchildren, Kalexx, Oliver, Evie, Quinn, and Rhyan; great granddog, Cassie; several nieces and nephews; two sisters, Martha Mills of Paducah and Sue Olvera of Tuscola, IL; three brothers, Keith Sanders, Eddie Sanders, and Bruce Sanders of Chicago; her best friend of 21 years, Silvia Smith (Danny) of Durand, MI.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 1 pm to 2 pm at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2 pm with Charlie Kilpatrick officiating.

Garrett Hunerkoch, 18 of Metropolis,IL, was welcomed home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, May 9, 2026.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Forthman officiating.

Garrett attended grade school at Franklin Elementary in Metropolis and was set to graduate from Vienna High School. He was an active member of the FFA, 4H, and Auto Body program.

From child to a young man, Garrett loved the outdoors. He knew he was meant to work the land with his own hands from what he learned about farming and tractors from his grandfathers. He took great pride in his accomplishments, including purchasing his own equipment to begin a custom haying businesses, H&M Hay Makers, alongside Logan Markus and Hunerkoch Hay.

Garrett was known for his work ethic, always having time to say hello and share a smile with those around him and being one of the best uncles ever. A man of faith, Garrett showed quiet strength, kindness, and compassion to both the strong and the meek. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He leaves behind his loving mother, LaRonda Helland (Luther); his father, Randall Hunerkoch; his sister, Madison Pickel (Janson); and his brothers, Wyatt, Rhett, and Kegahn Helland; sisters, Ashlyn Lilly (Kenneth) and Lauren Allbritten (Jordan) and their families; nephew Jaxson Pickel, grandparents, Earl and Dixie Hunerkoch, Edwina Woolard and Carol Helland.

Garrett was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Gilbert Woolard and Nelson Helland.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Thursday, May 14th at the funeral home.

Kayla loved crafts, especially painting and coloring.

Kayla is survived by her parents, Benjamin and Teresa Norwood; husband of 15 years, Timothy Day; sister, Savanah Beavers; brother, Andrew Rice; in-laws, Steve and Stephanie Singer and Robert and Barbara Day; nieces and nephews, Jaxon Carman-Norwood, Stetson Carman-Norwood, McKensey Cox Day, Konley Day, Kaysley Day, and Madden Day; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Thomas Beavers, Doris Beavers, Lindell Norwood, Marsha Norwood, Shirley Norwood, Evelyn Rice and Ced Rice.

Kenneth was a retired engineer working in the river industry. He was a member of Weaver Creek Baptist Church, American Legion, National Rifle Association, and served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam war.

Kenneth is survived by his sisters, Amy DeMoss and Melinda Turner and husband Rod; several nieces and nephews; step son, Kenneth Crowder and wife Theresa; step grandchildren, Ashley Franks and Christopher Crowder.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Gene Dale and Elinor Nellie (Thompson) Brooks; wife, Fonda Joyce (Jackson) Brooks; step daughter, Vicki Lewis.

Cindy Jeffords, 68 of Brookport, IL, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at her residence with her family by her side.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at Bridge Church with Pastors Charles Tate and Joe Vance officiating. Burial will follow in Otterbein Cemetery.

Cindy was a member of Bridge Church. She enjoyed tending to her flower beds, volunteering at St. Vincient’s, and going to church. Most of all, she loved being a wife, mother and grandmother and is going to be missed.

Cindy is survived by her husband of 52 years, Alan Jeffords; daughter, Melissa Jeffords; grandson, Trea Jeffords; sisters, Pat Giltner (Steve) and Carolyn Scott; brother-in-law, Danny Simpson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Melvin and Shirley Ann (Edwards) Duncan; grandson, Luke Jeffords; sister, Debbie Simpson; brothers, Billy Duncan and JR Duncan; brother-in-law, Hughie Scott; nephew, Zach Duncan; and niece, Clarissa Henry.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2026 at Mt. Sterling Cemetery with Pastor Charles Tate officiating. There will be no visitation. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.

JR is survived by his daughter, Renee Routon; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sisters, Pat Giltner and husband Steve, Carolyn Scott, Cindy Jeffords and husband Alan; brother-in-law, Danny Simpson; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Hartzel Lee Black, age 82 of Metropolis, Illinois was born on November 1, 1943, in Massac County, Illinois to Theodore and Edith Virginia (Smith) Black. He grew up in the New Columbia community and departed this life for his heavenly reward on April 27, 2026 at his residence surrounded by his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the New Hope Baptist Church Family Life Center, 6804 New Columbia Road, Belknap, Illinois 62908.

Hartzel graduated from Metropolis Community High School and received his Bachelor’s degree from Murray State University, his Master’s degree from The University of Kentucky, and had several hours towards his PhD at Southern Illinois University. Both degrees were in Agriculture Education. He was an educator at both the high school and collegiate level. He then went on to become the Director of Correctional Education and operated multiple prison education programs. As his career advanced, he was promoted to Vice President of Southeastern Illinois College and was responsible for all technology and correctional programs for the college district.

After retiring from Southeastern Illinois College in 1999, he moved to Utah and went to work for Management and Training Corporation serving as their Vice President and established essential correctional programming in 20 prisons throughout the world. He wrote and developed a program called “Success for Life” which is currently used in all the Management and Training correctional facilities within the company. He strongly believed that most inmates will reenter mainstream society, and emphasized the importance of understanding the skills and support they need to thrive. His programs were designed to set them up for long-term success. During his professional career he was a member of many organizations, councils and boards including The National Employment and Training Association, The American Vocational Association, The American Correctional Association (where he served as a Delegate Assembly Member and past International President), The Regional Coalition, The Dropout Prevention and Employment for Disadvantaged Youth, and The West Central Wardens and Superintendents Association. He was a Rotarian and was also appointed by Governor Jim Edgar to serve on the Illinois Council for Vocational Education. His most recent achievement was serving as the Chairperson of the Saints Foundation Board at Shawnee Community College. His guidance and commitment helped strengthen the Foundation and expand opportunities for countless students across the region. He believed in the power of education to change lives, and he worked tirelessly to ensure that belief became a reality for others. He also served on several local elementary and secondary school boards.

Hartzel was a faithful member of The New Hope Baptist Church and the Metropolis Kiwanis Club. Riding horses was Hartzel’s passion. He rode horses all over the country and loved introducing them to his grandkids and many more. Not only did he do extensive trail riding throughout America, he was also an avid camper, belonging to the Lincoln Landers RV Club. Most importantly Hartzel was a loving husband, father, and papa, who loved his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Hartzel is survived by his wife of 45 years, Loralea Black; children, Sheri Donahue and husband Jeff, Jeri Miller and husband Scott, Mark Black and wife Trista, Gina Strothmann and husband Kevin, and Gay Hammond and husband Rob; 8 grandchildren, Shelbey Johnson (Kevin), Molly Donahue (Nick Frey), Jaxton Black, Whittney Strothmann, Kyle Strothmann (Brittany), Bryson Hammond (Lana), Alecia Boss (Nate), and Brad Hammond (Peyton); 12 great grandchildren; one uncle, Verl Smith; two aunts, Barbara Rohrer and Francis Goins; and several cousins and many friends.

Hartzel was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Joyce Faye Flynn and infant brother, Eugene Lavern Black.

Sherry Ann Williams, age 73, of Metropolis, Illinois, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, passing peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 17, 1952. Sherry was a hardworking woman who spent her life caring for others. She often worked two jobs while raising her children and was known for always putting her family first. Most of all, Sherry loved Jesus. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and her favorite gospel hymn was “Most of All” by The McGruders. She was the best MaMaw to her grandchildren and deeply loved her great-granddaughter, as well as all of her nieces and nephews. Sherry fought a long battle with heart failure for over a decade and remained strong until the end. She was preceded in death by her parents Penny and Georgia Emery; her husband, Bill Williams; her stepson, Cameron Williams; and her great-grandbaby, Tamzyn Reed. She is survived by her children, Casey Ferguson-Batts (Shane Batts) and Clint Ferguson (Miriam Ferguson); grandchildren, Charlee Swader (Tyler Reed), Guy Ferguson, and Hannah Ferguson; great-granddaughter, Hazel Reed; stepdaughter, Amber Blades (and family); sisters, Wanda Sue Cole, Cindy Wilke, and Teressa Newbold; brother, Penny Emery; and many loved nieces, nephews, family, and friends. The family finds comfort in God’s promise: “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain…” — Revelation 21:4 Sherry will be remembered for her deep faith, her love for her family, and the care she gave so freely to everyone around her.
