You are your child’s first and most important teacher. 💛

It’s easy to feel like you’re not “qualified” to help your child learn to talk — especially when progress feels slow. But here’s the truth: parents are naturally wired to teach their children. 🧠✨

Yes, even when imposter syndrome creeps in.

With the right tools and support, you have everything it takes to help your child grow their language skills. 🌱💬

Hey parents! Did you know that listening to music and singing with your child is a powerful way to build their language skills? Here’s why:

🎶 Music and language are processed in the same area of the brain – Singing helps strengthen those connections!

🎶 Music helps us retain language – Ever notice how you still remember songs from childhood? Repetition in songs makes words stick!

🎶 Music captures your child’s attention – The rhythm, melody, and actions keep little ones engaged and listening.
In order to learn new skills, children need to be able to pay attention.

Try these fun, language-boosting songs with your toddler:
✨Old MacDonald Had a Farm
✨If You’re Happy and You Know It
✨Wheels on the Bus
✨Itsy Bitsy Spider
✨5 Little Ducks

Singing together is not only fun—it’s also a great way to encourage speech and language development!

Let’s Talk About Milestones!

Milestones can be super helpful, but they’re often misunderstood. So let’s clear things up!

✅ Milestones are guideposts – They give a general idea of when most children reach certain skills.

💬They help guide conversations – If you have concerns, milestones can help you and a professional decide if extra support is needed.

❌They are NOT hard and fast rules – Every child develops at their own pace! Some kids hit milestones early, some a little later, and that’s okay.

🚫 Milestones are not skills to be taught – You don’t need to drill or “train” your child to reach them. They develop naturally through interaction and play.

🤝Kids who are late on milestones might benefit from support – If your child isn’t meeting milestones as expected, don’t panic! If your child is under 3, look into your state’s early intervention program if your child is under 3, or contact a private practice near you.

Progress is NOT linear!

If your child seems to take two steps forward and one step back, you’re not alone! Development doesn’t follow a straight path—it’s more like a squiggly line full of ups, downs, and pauses. ⬆️🔁⬇️

✨ Some weeks, your toddler might be saying tons of new words—then suddenly, they seem to stop or even go back to using gestures.

This is completely normal! Growth happens in bursts, and sometimes kids pause or even revisit old skills as their brain processes new ones.

💡The key? Keep talking, keep modeling, and keep encouraging them. Progress is happening, even if it doesn’t always feel like it.

Save this post as a reminder on tough days. And if you ever have concerns, reach out—we’re here to support you! 💕

Hey parents! Want to help your toddler learn to talk? Try these three simple strategies!

1️⃣ Talk about what they’re doing! If your little one is stacking blocks, say, “Wow, you’re building a big tower!” If they’re looking at a book, you can say, “I see a big red truck!” Talking out loud helps them connect words to their world. 🌎✨

2️⃣ Make a comment, then pause. Instead of asking questions, like “Do you want to open it?” when handing them a snack, try saying “open”. Then, wait! If they don’t respond, repeat it: “Open!” This gives them a chance to soak in the language and try it out. ⏳

3️⃣ Talk without expecting them to repeat you. Sometimes, toddlers seem like they aren’t listening—but trust me, they are! Keep chatting naturally, even if they don’t respond. The more they hear language, the more they’ll learn! 🧠💡

Many parents ask what kinds of words they should be modeling at home. There are endless words in our language - where to begin?!?

Start with core words! These are the most frequently used vocabulary words in our language, so modeling these words gives little talkers a great jumping off point 🗣️
