May is National Preservation Month, and we are so excited to share that the Cindy Walker House in Mexia has been named as one of America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places by the National Trust for Historic Preservation for 2024!

With help and guidance from Preservation Texas, the Cindy Walker Foundation has successfully provided this unique site with national exposure.

During her lifetime (1917-2006), Cindy Walker wrote songs for famous artists like Ray Charles, Eddy Arnold, Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, Roy Orbison, and more. She is regarded as one of country music's greatest songwriters and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in Nashville earlier this year. Many of Walker's songs were written at her historic home in Mexia, Texas.

Congratulations to the Cindy Walker Foundation!

I have but one life to give to Texas ... Tapley Holland

Tapley at 26 years of age was the first man to cross Travis' line in the sand. Then said, " I regret that I have but one life to give for Texas!"
