✨ Meet Kim! ✨
We’re thrilled to welcome Kim to The Speech Lab team this year! She’ll be serving students at Mexico Public Schools — so if you see her at Hawthorne, Eugene Field, or the Middle School, make sure to say hello 👋

Kim brings years of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist, working in both public and private school settings. She’s especially passionate about early language development, phonological speech disorders, and helping students build strong reading and writing skills. Recently, she’s also focused on Gestalt Language Processing and Natural Language Acquisition — tools that have made a real difference for many children.

Outside of work, Kim enjoys cooking, coffee with friends, and spending time outdoors with her husband and two kids in Columbia, MO.

We’re so happy to have her on our team!💚

Many believe that children will simply “outgrow” their speech delays. ⏳

The truth is, while some children may catch up, many don’t — and leaving delays untreated can impact communication, learning, and confidence in the long run.

That's why early intervention is so important. Skills build on top of preexisting skills, so getting started with proactive treatment is essential to set children up for success later on. 💬✨

Speech disorders aren’t a parent’s fault. 👨‍👩‍👧🧠

This week, we’re busting the myth that speech disorders are caused by parenting. The truth is, speech and language delays and disorders can be linked to a variety of factors such as genetics, developmental delays, hearing issues, neurological conditions, and more — and parents aren’t to blame.

What’s more important is the role early intervention plays. With the right support and therapy, children can thrive in their communication skills. 💬

Stay tuned as we continue to bust myths and provide clarity on what speech therapy is really about!

There’s a lot more to speech therapy than just… talking. 🧠🗣️
This week, we’re busting the myth that it’s only about talking.

In reality, speech therapy covers everything from understanding and using language to reading, writing, social skills, voice, fluency, and even swallowing. Yep — we're that versatile.

Communication is complex, and we’re here to support it in every form 💬
Stay tuned as we keep busting the myths and shedding light on what speech therapy really looks like.

We’re excited to kick off a new series — Myth Busting with The Speech Lab! 🧠

There are so many myths out there about speech therapy, and we’re here to set the record straight. Each week, we’ll tackle a common misconception and share the truth behind it.

This week’s myth: “Speech therapy is only for children.”
We hear this one all the time, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Speech therapy can support people of all ages, including adults recovering from strokes or brain injuries, or managing conditions like Parkinson’s, stuttering, voice disorders, or even swallowing difficulties.

Communication matters at every stage of life, and we’re here to help every step of the way.💚

Please help us welcome Cyndi to the Speech Lab team this summer!✨

Originally from St. Louis, Cyndi has called mid-Missouri home for the past 12 years. She holds both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Central Missouri (UCM). 🎓

Cyndi brings a wide range of experience across the age span, but she especially shines when working with the littles! She has worked in schools, outpatient settings, and even dabbled in First Steps. Her specialties include speech sound disorders, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, phonological disorders, and AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication). She’s passionate about helping all children find their voice—because everyone deserves one.

Outside the clinic, Cyndi enjoys life with her husband and two kids—whether it’s pool days, backyard fishing, baking, or getting lost in a good book. 📚

We’re so excited to have Cyndi with us for the summer before she returns to her role with Columbia Public Schools in the fall!💚

We are beyond excited to welcome Ceres to The Speech Lab family! 🙌

Originally from Palmyra, MO, Ceres has called Columbia home for the past 7 years. She holds both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Western Illinois University (Go Leathernecks! 🐴) and brings a wealth of experience and passion to our team.

Ceres began her SLP journey in skilled nursing, where she developed a deep appreciation for supporting elderly clients with cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders. She then transitioned to Boone Hospital’s outpatient setting—where she first connected with our very own Loren!—gaining valuable experience across all ages and building special interests in speech sound disorders, early language delays, and Parkinson’s-related therapies.

Most recently, she’s worked in private practice, splitting her time between schools and the clinic, expanding her training in Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders and Gestalt Language Processing.

When she’s not making a difference in the lives of her clients, you’ll find Ceres soaking up time with her husband and adorable one-year-old son, cooking up something tasty, cheering on the STL Blues, or diving into her next home organization project.

Help us give Ceres a big warm welcome — we’re so lucky to have her on board! 💚
