Chris is a disability advocate, nurse, former Ms. Wheelchair Colorado, and peer mentor who will share her powerful story of transformation following a life-changing hiking accident that left her paralyzed, and how she has continued to lead, advocate, and inspire through it.

Tomorrow is when The North Face Universal Design sleeping bag, tent, backpack, mule slip on shoes & sun hats are available!!! If you like the outdoors and are wanting to go camping, these pieces of equipment are for everyone! (See my previous post about the details of each piece).

The North Face has done it!!! They have a Universal Collection of equipment debuting on April 14,2026. What does this mean??? The design team has made a tent, sleeping bag, backpack, Mule slip-ons, and a sun hat using universal design so everyone, no matter their ability, can use them. I’ll explain:

-The tent ⛺️ has a wide opening with low enough clearance and entrance threshold for a wheelchair user to “wheel” in and zip it independently. The rain cover is attached to the front and can be pulled over the tent more easily and secured.
The flooring is more durable to withstand wheels, cots, accessories without ripping.
Plenty of space for 2-3 people.

-The backpack has so many great accessible features…
The opening is a magnetic, easy to open/close.
The back straps can be stored within the pack, shorted or made for the back of a wheelchair.
The opening is large.
The base is durable to stand up on its own.
The side pockets are higher for easier reach.

-The sleeping bag is incredibly designed with accessibility in mind…
It opens wide with magnetic snaps for easy opening/closing= NO MORE ZIPPERS!!
The foot end is extra insulated to keep the feet warm.
The storage bag has a wide opening and accessible drawstring.
The colors, textures and pockets are used for easy closure.

-The Mule slip-ons are made wider with loops to pull on with ease.
They have super soft lining.
Great non-slip soles.

The awesome sun hats have an easy toggle to tighten up the strap and a shade that pulls down to cover the neck and shoulders.
