Another Source Story, as we continue celebrating 25 years of Source Journeys.
For Glenn, the connection began long before Rwanda. As a child, he would ride his bike to the zoo and linger in front of the gorilla enclosure, watching, sensing something he couldn’t quite explain. It stayed with him over the years, quietly shaping the way he saw animals and the world around him.
So when he found himself trekking through the forests of Rwanda, coming face to face with mountain gorillas, it felt like something returning. There was awe, of course, and a presence that’s hard to put into words. But what stayed with him most wasn’t the power. It was the play.
A young gorilla burst through the group, full of energy and curiosity, and then the silverback, the one you might expect to keep his distance, began to wrestle and engage with his family. Strong enough to command everything around him, choosing instead something gentler.
“It reminded me of my dad,” Glenn said. “Wrestling in the backyard.”
For a moment, the wild didn’t feel distant. It felt familiar.
