Ozempic just reversed biological aging by 3 years in a new clinical trial.
It literally made participants biologically younger, especially in the brain and immune system.
A new clinical trial suggests that Ozempic, widely known for treating diabetes and obesity, may also have powerful anti-aging effects. In the first study to directly measure biological aging, participants receiving weekly semaglutide injections for 32 weeks reversed their biological age by an average of 3.1 years.
The trial, led by TruDiagnostic and involving 108 people with HIV-associated lipohypertrophy, used epigenetic clocks—tools that measure DNA methylation patterns linked to aging—to track the results. While the placebo group saw no change, those on semaglutide experienced notable rejuvenation, particularly in the brain and immune system, where aging slowed by nearly five years.
Researchers believe the anti-aging benefits stem from semaglutide’s ability to improve fat distribution and reduce inflammation, both of which are major contributors to cellular aging.
The study also showed improvements in biological age markers in the heart and kidneys, highlighting the drug’s broad systemic effects. While experts caution against using Ozempic as a general anti-aging therapy just yet, this trial marks a major milestone in exploring how existing medications might help slow—or even reverse—the biological aging process across different populations.
