It's so funny.

Yesterday after my plenary panel discussion, someone asked me how did I know I was a speaker. I told her the signs were there since childhood, when I would get my report cards and my teachers would always write, without fail, "Georgia is very smart and intelligent, but she talks alot!"

The bread crumbs were always there!

I value the gift of being able to take complex concepts, simplify them, and help others shift their lives for the best.

Enjoyed my time in Orlando at the ASSP Safety 25 Conference and Expo with industry experts.

The messaging around mental health and employee wellbeing continues to remain central and is taking on significant momentum.

I was thoroughly impressed with the number of sessions on mental health and psychological safety on the agenda. A far cry from the only session my partner and I presented on back in 2021.

Grateful for the opportunity to serve my gift.

I'm often asked if therapy is only for those who are dealing with mental health concerns. My response is always the same. Therapy is whatever you need it to be:

- Responsive care to help you work through a crisis, mental illness, life transitions, relationship conflict, an addiction, or any other challenge you might be facing.

- Premptive care to arm you with some healthy coping skills and strategies before you are faced with a challenge.

- Maintenance to help you sustain your gains.

I remember attending my first Safety Conference and Expo in 2021 and being both impressed with and appreciative of the very robust panel discussion centering total worker health.

This year, I am privileged to share the stage with fellow panelists Linda Tapp, ALCM, CSP, CPTD, Wesley Wheeler, SMP, CESCP, MSP, and Christina Trahan-Cain.

The focus is one that is timely and of critical importance and I personally want to thank the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) for making this a priority and leading the charge.

Here's what's in store for our session scheduled for July 23, 2025.
"The Silent Hazard: Mental Health, Su***de Prevention and the Role of EHS Professionals"

Safety isn’t just about physical hazards — it’s about protecting the whole worker. Su***de and mental health issues contribute to a growing crisis that directly impacts worker safety, yet many EHS professionals feel unprepared to address it. These issues are even more urgent in construction, where the su***de rate is approximately four times higher than the general population, according to OSHA.

While EHS professionals are not mental health experts, they are uniquely positioned to foster a workplace culture that provides psychological safety. Our expert panel will share insights to help you move beyond awareness to action using practical strategies that help your organization recognize warning signs, reduce lingering stigma and effectively integrate su***de prevention and mental well-being into existing safety programs.

One look, two sessions!

Two dynamics opportunities today to engage audiences during back to back webinars, sharing on a topic that is near and dear to my heart. Mental health and wellbeing!

My first very robust conversation was with Kahlilah Guyah, CHMM, CSP of EHS Compliance Services Inc.

We talked extensively about

❇️ The ongoing shift in attitude towards open dialogue around mental health and wellbeing, especially in the workplace

❇️ Mental health and wellbeing as a business imperative and the role of leadership in promoting psychological health and safety as a core value

❇️ Benefits companies experience engaging this important initiative; and

❇️ The process of integration, including partnering with mental health experts by means of training and consulting. We talked a bit about our experience in working with L'Oréal, ASSP, NSC, General Motors in this regard.

We also spent time tackling some common myths around mental health, including challenging the notion that

🚫 Mental illness is a "sign of weakness/defect"

🚫 Burnout is just "being tired," and

🚫 Mental health is "not a workplace issue"

During my second webinar delivered on behalf of Carebridge EAP, I shared with participants tips on providing support to friends or family members dealing with mental illness. With 1 in 5 (U.S. adults) likely to suffer from mental illness annually, we all should be prepared to.

My resounding takeaways:

✳️ The more knowledgeable you are, the more support you can provide

✳️ Put your oxygen masks on first,

✳️ Know your limits.

We might be exiting the month of May, but mental health awareness is an everyday affair. Let's keep the momentum going!

In my world, mental health awareness is a 365-day experience. The month of May is when we really get to zero in on why this is, and more importantly, why it should be the case.

Pleased to collaborate with my good friend Kahlilah Guyah, CHMM, CSP for this very important conversation.

No doubt, we have come a long way from not having comfortable dialogue around mental health. A shift in our culture in this regard is quite evident. There is still more work to be done in reducing stigma and shame, and eliminating barriers to accessing quality care.

Make plans to tune in for this exciting exchange on May 28, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. EST, as we discuss "Debunking mental health myths: Going beyond buzzwords towards better, safer teams."

Though it has been and continuous to be a tedious process driving this agenda, I really believe organizational leaders are beginning to see the value in protecting and promoting workplace mental health and employee wellbeing.

We still have a loooonnnnggg way to go. I'm grateful that I get to be part of this experience!

Looking forward to joining my fellow panelists at the 2025 Safety on the Edge Global Forum, March 25-26, in Berkley, CA.

We will be making the case for including workplace mental health and well-being as a fundamental business strategy.

I am pleased to share the platform with one of my beloved mentors and avid supporters, Pam Walaski.

A very busy but productive work-week administering Module II of my 2-part mental health literacy training, "Becoming a Psychologically Supportive People Leader," to HR personnel, managers and frontline supervisors, at L'ORÉAL, New Jersey.

The always-on-the-move Laynnea Myles, V. P. of Environmental Health and Safety and my "boss" for the week, took some time out of her busy schedule for a photo-opp.
