📢 📢📢 PER THE National Weather Service

Monday June 16, 2025 through Wednesday June 18, 2025 The National Weather Service will be conducting a required, scheduled update to the main computer system.
During the time of the update, they still plan to conduct forecast operations, but may use their backup office in Albuquerque, NM.

What will be impacted: ALL NOAA WEATHER RADIO TRANSMITTERS MAINTAINED BY NWS AMARILLO WILL BE OFF AIR DURING THE TIME OF THIS INSTALL. This includes the following transmitters that broadcast in the Texas and

Oklahoma Panhandles:
Amarillo, Tx
Stinnett, Tx
Miami, Tx
Perryton, Tx
Guymon, Tx
Dalhart, Tx
Stratford, Tx

If we do have any severe weather and warnings issued, it will be VERY important that residents have other ways (like always) to get watch and warning information.

***UPDATE @ 11 PM - The tornado watch has been allowed to expire. The central and eastern TX Panhandle is now in a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 4 AM. See more recent posts.***

Stay weather aware this afternoon into evening. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms will be possible across the central to eastern Panhandles. Some of the more robust supercells, if they form, will be capable of strong winds and hail upwards of baseball to softball in size. Tornadoes cannot be ruled out with any of these robust storms as well. Not everyone will see a storm but don't let your guard down.

Please prepare today for the upcoming cold front!! Limit time outdoors, dress appropriately and check on your people!

There's no two ways about it, it's gonna be *a bit* cold for much of this week, especially during the overnight into morning hours Tuesday - Thursday. Air temperatures in the single digits to negatives, combined with any wind will make temperatures feel markedly colder each morning. Be sure to take all necessary actions to keep yourself, your pets, and your property safe this week!
