Galen Hope

Galen Hope Comprehensive treatment for primary mental health conditions, primary eating disorders, and/or complex dual diagnoses for adults and adolescents.

The Galen Hope experience is unique in that the treatment milieu is comprised of other clients, the staff, and the community at large. It is the synergy of these three components that creates the backdrop for the sound clinical services and strong behavioral supports and expectations that lead to an unlocking of the mental illness and the unfolding of the healing process. Our treatment integrates

the best concepts of residential programs, partial hospitalization programs, and community psychology in order to provide an experience that not only feels uniquely meaningful to the client, but also breaks the cycle of repeated hospitalizations, over-institutionalization, and isolation from community and family.

Back-to-school season can be exciting, but for some teens, it can also feel overwhelming or even unmanageable.

If your child is struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, an eating disorder, or another mental health challenge, returning to the classroom may feel impossible.

📍 Signs your teen may not be ready:
• Refusing to go to school or avoiding it altogether
• Panic attacks or emotional shutdowns around academics
• Ongoing sleep issues or extreme fatigue
• Loss of interest in friends, hobbies, or learning
• Increased irritability, isolation, or hopelessness

➡️ Mental health is just as important as academics.
Some teens need extra support or a different path forward to feel safe and ready.

Treatment is available. Healing is possible.

What do immune cells have to do with eating disorders?

Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) is a condition where certain immune cells overreact, releasing chemicals that trigger inflammation throughout the body.

That inflammation can affect your:
◻️ Digestion
◻️ Mood
◻️ Brain
◻️ Heart rate
◻️ Skin

And for many, these symptoms get tangled up with food and body behaviors, leading to fear of eating, restriction, or anxiety that’s often misunderstood.

Too often, it’s labeled as “just anxiety” or “just your ED.” But when MCAS is missed, treatment may overlook a big piece of the puzzle.

At Galen Hope, we do things differently.

Our approach to MCAS + eating disorders is:
✔️ Medically informed
✔️ Emotionally attuned
✔️ Trauma-aware
✔️ Rooted in relationship
✔️ HAES-aligned

We don’t force. We partner. We listen.

✨ You are not “too complex.”
✨ You just need care that sees all of you.

From Chicago to Tampa! Meaningful moments in

📍 Our first stop: Chicago, IL, where Co-Founder Amy Boyers, PhD, joined Candace McKenzie, LMFT at the International OCD Foundation Conference to connect with fellow providers and engage in thoughtful conversations around and care collaboration.

📍Next up: Tampa, FL, where Dr. Amy Boyers presented at the iaedp Tampa Chapter on the deeply important topic, “Adapting Eating Disorder Treatment for Autistic Clients,” joined by Nicole Paolucci, LMHC.

It was a wonderful opportunity to share insights, strengthen connections, and contribute to important conversations shaping the future of our field.

Mental health should never feel out of reach, especially in BIPOC communities.
While mental health conversations have historically been stigmatized, that’s starting to change. There is strength in blending traditional healing with professional support. True healing begins when people feel seen, heard, and understood.

At Galen Hope, our clinical team reflects the rich diversity of the community we serve. With clinicians from various countries and cultural backgrounds, including our own multicultural Miami, we provide care that is culturally competent, compassionate, and truly personalized.

Whether you're navigating trauma, anxiety, identity, or intergenerational stress, know that help is available.

What is OSFED?
OSFED stands for Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder. It’s a clinical diagnosis for individuals who experience serious eating disorder symptoms but don’t meet the full criteria for anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating disorder.

🔍 What does OSFED look like?
It may differ in frequency, duration, or specific behaviors, but it’s still serious and can deeply impact a person’s physical and emotional well-being.

Examples include:
▪️ Atypical Anorexia – significant weight loss, but not underweight
▪️ Bulimia (low frequency) – binge/purge behaviors occur less often
▪️ Binge Eating (low frequency) – less frequent bingeing
▪️ Purging Disorder – purging without binge eating
▪️ Night Eating Syndrome – distress from eating during the night

🚨 Important to know: OSFED is just as serious as other eating disorders.
Help is available, and healing is possible.

Ever feel like rejection hits harder than it should?
You might be experiencing something called Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD).

RSD isn’t a formal diagnosis, but it describes the intense emotional pain some people feel when they think they’ve been rejected or criticized, even if it’s minor or imagined. It can significantly impact daily life.

RSD is especially common in people with ADHD, and the emotional response can be overwhelming:
😔 Shame
💔 Sadness
😡 Anger or frustration
😞 Guilt or withdrawal

➡️ Understanding RSD is the first step toward managing those intense emotions and building emotional resilience.

Treatment is available, and healing is possible.

When a teen's behavior changes, it may be a sign that something deeper is going on. It’s not always “just a phase.”

Teens may not have the words to say, “I’m overwhelmed” or “I need help,” but their actions often speak for them.

🔹 If you’re a parent noticing increased isolation, risky choices, or changes in sleep, eating, or mood, it might be time to reach out.

🔹 If you’re a teen feeling stuck, anxious, or not like yourself, you don’t have to go through it alone.

At Galen Hope, we support both teens and families with compassion, curiosity, and care.
