NATIONAL SOBER DAY | SEPTEMBER 14

National Sober Day on September 14th encourages us to celebrate Sober life and bring awareness to addiction. The entire day focuses on showing support for anyone living in sobriety. Not only that, but the observance sets a standard for the whole world that being sober is okay. Show your friends and family on the road to recovery by spending the day sober as well.

Ideally scheduled during National Recovery Month, the day supports removing the stigma associated with addiction. It opens the lines of communication that lead to better understanding. The day provides an opportunity to build educated support networks. It also strengthens existing ones. Success is more likely when systems are paved with an aware, loving, and honest cheering section. If we stumble, aren’t we more likely to get back up again when we have a solid support system?

Encouragement of one day fuels more support and awareness, leading to long-term sobriety. That’s something worth celebrating! The opposite of addiction is a connection. This holiday will provide a model for future generations as well. By demonstrating how to enjoy life alcohol-free, the day will embolden future generations to say no to alcohol and drugs.

HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL SOBER DAY

Spend the day sober. While that may seem simple enough, it may come as a challenge to some. Start by finding recipes for delicious mocktails. Plan activities that don’t feel like they require alcohol or drugs to have fun. Enjoy the day! By all means, do things you and your friends enjoy doing. Just remove alcohol from the equation. Call, text, email a friend or family member in recovery. Let them know you support their sobriety. Share with them how you are going to spend this day alcohol and drug free.

The 2022 ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) wrapped up today. I’m super excited to bring back some great info to QCS and the Four States!

Something I felt over and over throughout the conference was how lucky we are to have so much support from Quapaw Nation. I heard all week long about the struggles other clinics face with feeling under-funded, poor staff morale, feeling overworked, etc. I’m sure they hated me when I just kept saying, “we experience NONE of that!”

I’m excited to get back to Oklahoma and continue our work to end the op**te epidemic, if even just in our little corner of the world. Flying back in the morning! See ya back at the clinic Tuesday! ✈️

There are multiple FDA approved medications to treat opioid dependence. Quapaw Counseling Services offers two of those- methadone and suboxone.

If you or a loved one is struggling with opioid dependence, please call us. We don’t want any of our neighbors becoming part of this statistic.

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day.

According to the most recent World Drug Report, an estimated 585,000 people died as a result of drug use in 2017. Opioids account for the majority of drug-related deaths and in most cases such deaths are avoidable.

According to a recent study, people with OUD receiving treatment with medications such as methadone or buprenorphine had an 80 percent lower risk of dying from an opioid overdose compared with people in treatment without the use of medications.

The American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence (AATOD) would like to commemorate this day by sharing a webinar recording that highlights the successful journey of two individuals who opted for Medicated-Assisted Treatment (MAT) in order to combat Opioid Use Disorder (OUD).

This webinar provided an in-depth view of two remarkable people, who struggled with the challenges of opioid use disorder, recovered through the use of medic...
